Professional Development Series: Women in Technology Panel

Technology is one of the fastest growing and most influential industries in the world today. The sector is expected to grow expontentially in the next decade due to the rapid development of new technologies. Although women are lead adopters of technology, they are highly underepresented in the technology sector--as demonstrated by the following statements:

  • Women made up 26% of the computing workforce in 2013

  • In the mid-1980s, 37% of computer science majors were women; in 2012, 18%

  • 57% of bachelor's degrees are earned by women yet only 12% of them are computer science degrees

  • Google's workforce is only about 30% female

  • 7% of venture capital funding goes to women-owned businesses

  • 4.2% of investing VCs are women

  • 20% of software developers are women

Whether you can code, pitch, create, or calculate, there is a wealth of opportunities for women in the tech industry. On September 20th, we will bring together two panels of entrepreneurial and corporate women to share their experiences working in different tech environments concerning strategy, marketing, software development, and management.

We will discuss the following topics:

  1. Entrepreneurship and Start-ups

  2. Benefits and Opportunities in the Tech Industry

  3. Sexism and Breaking Down Barriers

  4. Empowering Women in Tech

  5. Climbing the Corporate Ladder

  6. Developing Computer Skills and Knowledge

Beijing Women’s Network and JingJobs strive to promote and highlight women’s achievement in tech as well as inspire an upcoming generation of women to get involved in the tech industry. Come check out our panel to learn more about women in technology and how technology can play a role in your life!
