Theme: Introduction of Chinese jiǎo zi’
The Dōngzhì Festival or Winter Solstice Festival (Chinese: 冬至; pinyin: Dōngzhì; literally "the Arrival of Winter") is one of the most important festivals celebrated by the Chinese and other East Asians during the Dongzhi solar term (winter solstice) on or around December 22 when sunshine is weakest and daylight shortest day in the year. It occurs on Friday, December 22, 2017.
Traditionally, the Dongzhi Festival is also a time for the family to get together. One activity that occurs during these get-togethers is making jiaozi. There is even a saying 'if you don't eat Jiaozi in day, then you will lost ear by freezing cold..
The jiaozi, or Chinese dumpling, is a traditional dish eaten on Chinese New Year's Eve. It generally consists of minced meat and finely chopped vegetables wrapped into a piece of dough skin. The fillings can be ground meat, chicken, shrimp, and even fish with vegetable and many kinds of styles. Dumplings are commonly eaten with a dipping sauce made of vinegar and chili oil or paste, and occasionally with some soy sauce added in.
