In his recently published book China's Banking Transformation: The Untold Story, Jim Stent argues that Chinese banks have transformed into modern, well-run commercial banks, playing a vital role supporting China's extraordinary economic growth. In his view Chinese banks must be considered as hybrid banks, borrowing extensively from Western models, but at the same time operating within a traditional Chinese cultural framework and in line with China's governance model.
The European Chamber is delighted to welcome industry commentator James Stent to share his unique insight on the state of the domestic Chinese banking system and to explain why he is contending the largely negative media perception of the sector. European Chamber President, Joerg Wuttke, will moderate a Q&A session in follow up to Mr Stents’ presentation.
James Stent has worked in banking sector in Asia for more than two decades, including for 13 years in China where he has been a Director at China Everbright Bank, and previously at China Mingsheng Bank.
