Printmaker Wang Qi was born in Yibin, Sichuan in 1918 and studied art at university, participating in making anti-Japanese propaganda during the Japanese Occupation of China. After the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, he served as a professor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, as part of the first generation of outstanding printmakers in China’s new woodcut movement. He passed away on December 7th, 2016, and the exhibition at the China Art Museum has been organized to honour his memory.
