This is a true story in Hequ, Shanxi Province, about a blind man called Guangfu who became blind due to a work accident when he was 20. The hardship of life forced him to go to the provincial capital alone to learn the blind massage. 30 years later, when he was 60, he went back to his hometown in village owing to his poor health.The two brothers live their lives independently, and they don’t visit each other frequently. The warm-hearted man Quanmin in the village sees his difficulty of living alone. Thus, he visits him a lot and helps him as much as possible.

Because of the local coal mining, the houses of villagers were damaged severely by earthquake. For the sake of living in a safe house, Guangfu goes to the leader of village to apply for housing quota, only to find out that the lead has given the quota to other person. Things have been delayed over and over. Finally the village leader pulls this thing to those higher in charge.The son of Guangfu’s younger brother, addicted to drugs, comes to see him occasionally. During these time, the leader regrets the housing thing, so he introduces a widow to Guangfu to look after him. At the end, his wife leaves him quietly, and neighboring villagers start to immigrate to other places, while he still lives as usual.
