Decent food, meh service
Went there today with the wife for a late, Western-style breakfast. We ordered pancakes, a waffle, and biscuits and gravy, as well as a strawberry shake and orange juice. The pancakes were good but giant -- I should have ordered two, not three -- and the waffle was also quite good, but the biscuits and gravy were extremely salty and kind of gross. The shake was OK -- nothing to write home about -- and the orange juice was orange juice. All in all, it was a pretty good meal, but at 200 RMB it felt quite overpriced when it all added up.
The service was pretty haphazard. For every stage of the process, we had to get a waiter's attention, and sometimes had to try several times before a waiter -- seemingly shocked that we might actually want to eat food in their restaurant -- would come over and take our order. Our food also arrived at different times, which didn't really matter to us but might to some people. This was on a Saturday afternoon, and there were certainly other people in the restaurant, but it wasn't packed or anything, so I'm not really sure what the deal was. It seemed like the whole wait staff was moving at half-speed (or had been zapped with the stasis module from Dead Space.)
But, like I said, the food was pretty good. Next time I'm craving pancakes, I'll probably go back. But I'll order less food and I certainly will leave out the biscuits and gravy...

good for anyone missing a taste of home
My friends and I have been in Beijing for about 5 months now. American Steak and Eggs was a welcome addition to our growing list of favorite restaurants! Having not eaten actual western breakfasts for a while, we really missed the taste of a massive carb overload with nice greasy bacon/sausages on the side.
We've visited three times now and have never been disappointed. It may not be as cheap as say buying a jianbing off the side of the road, but we all certainly love American Steak and Eggs.
My recommendation for a group of three or bigger is to order a bunch of different plates and eat them family style (as in the way you order chinese food). By ordering this way, you avoid a bursting stomach and get a greater variety - perfect for those looking for a super concentrated dose of American breakfast.
tl;dr eat here. it's delicious and fatty
