Pink Martini bring their unique brand of eclectic loungecore to the Tianqiao Performing Arts Center. Starting out as the house band for political fundraisers in Portland, Oregon, founder Thomas Lauderdale considered the music played at these events boring, and so put together his own group to offer an alternative, fusing Latin, classical, jazz, and classic pop to, in his own words, "bring a little bit of Breakfast at Tiffany’s." But it was in 1995, when his former Harvard classmate China Forbes added her sultry vocals to the mix, that Pink Martini really took off.

Since then, they’ve recorded nine albums, toured the world, appeared on TV shows such as The Late Show with David Letterman, and contributed songs to the soundtracks of The Sopranos, The West Wing, and Sherlock. Pink Martini are proud of their diversity; their dozen members come from a range of different backgrounds, and their repertoire includes songs in 25 different languages, from Armenian to Japanese.

Founded in 2008 by a group of students from the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory, the members of Kazakh traditional music ensemble Turan are award-winning folk artists who have performed around the world. They perform on ancient Kazakh instruments, creating an unforgettable image of the past and the present. Their desire is to recreate the sound of old archaic supplies, to find new ways, works and forms in the performance of the modern world.

Turan ensemble is a band composed of five members: Abzal Arykbaev, Maxat (Maksat) Medeubek, Bauirzhan Bekmukhanbetov, Serik Nurmoldaev, Erzhigit Aliyev. Abzal Arykbaev is good at throat singing.

The band usually play popular folk instruments such as dombra, zhetigen, kobyz, sybyzgy, sherter, shankobyz and some others. They usually wear ancient Kazakh costume when performance which strengthen the feeling of ancient Turkic. As artists-in-residence at the Museum of Kazakh Folk Musical Instruments, the Turan ensemble want to find new way remodeling folk music by using these ancient Kazakh musical instruments.

Oath is especially created for historic Temple东景缘’s 10 year anniversary. It is a collaborating effort by American Composer and Violinist Dylan Ebrahimian, Chinese design artist Naihan Li and Temple东景缘. The immersive music performances will take you to explore new sound and spatial realities.

Based on ethnic Chinese folk tales, Oath, is the story of timeless love, which tells a story of the eternal man and woman, who meet in the ancient past, in the Romantic era, and again in the future. Throughout every era, they meet, and are separated, only to meet again. Told in three acts, the same poetic text evolves with music, lighting and visual projections which distinguish the progression of time.

the chic bar and live music venue at EAST, Beijing is thrilled to host the second annual Craft Music Festival on Saturday 20th October. Featuring a wide array of genres and styles ranging from Irish rock to Reggae, the Craft Music Festival combines the best in Beijing’s local craft beer scene with live music for a memorable day at EAST, Beijing.

This year Xian will introduce a family session from 12:00pm to 6:00pm, featuring performances from local international school student and teacher groups. Families with small children can enjoy the mild volume and lively performances from talented young musicians.

From 6:00pm to 2:00am the evening ramps up with performances from five different musical groups. Taking the stage towards the later part of the evening are headliners One Drop, the popular Beijing-based reggae group, pop-rock trio Cue Pilot, international musical collective T.A.T.R., Irish-inspired local rock group Phonograph Band and of course Xian’s popular house band RIVALS.

Launched in 2012 by a group of long time reggae fans, One Drop has been sharing their passion for feel-good music, headlining at mainstream venues across Greater China including their annual main stage performance at the annual Bob Marley Day Festival in Beijing. One Drop captivates with their upbeat and modern renditions of classics from the genre as well as their innovative original tracks.

The 3C jazz collective has held several concerts at DDC live house that are uniquely dedicated to original compositions, and feature differing lineups of musicians at each concert.

This time around the collective will be made up of alto saxophonist Nathaniel Gao, Daniele Martini on tenor sax, Matt Roberts on trombone, Quentin Stokart on guitar, Nicola Lancerotti on double bass, Dimitry Strelianny on drums, and 3C founder Simone Schirru on guitar.
