Prune Deer hail from Hong Kong and formed in 2013. After their vocalist left and the band was suddenly lost, the four remaining members found an affinity and love for post-rock/math-rock after days upon days in the rehearsal room. The foursome have parlayed their love for post-rock into tours throughout China, Taiwan, and elsewhere in Asia, and are now back in China for a quick four city jaunt through Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, and Changsha. Welcome them to School Bar tonight and check out one of the stalwarts of the Hong Kong post-rock scene.

Opening the evening are Beijing's own post-rock aficionados, the much loved She Never Sings Our Songs.

Super School Fighter is the brainchild of GeiGei, aka Gu Jingping, aka Quick Shot signer, and aka long-time staple of the Beijing music scene. For the past 4+ years she has been booking gigs at School via her Super School Fighter project, and over the last couple years has settled into booking almost every Thursday evening show at School. Starting last summer SSF expanded beyond Beijing, and now books weekly/monthly shows in Shanghai, Chengdu, Xiamen, Wuhan, and elsewhere around China as well. The Choir of Christ Church, Oxford was founded nearly 500 years ago and has a special and distinctive place within the great English choral tradition. Historically it is set apart from all other collegiate and cathedral choirs since it serves both an Oxford college and a diocese at once, as a unique and celebrated dual foundation. Musically it has become revered for the vibrancy of its collective sound and its artistic flexibility.

Under the direction of Stephen Darlington, the choir's tonal quality has been praised and admired throughout the world from Sydney to Rio de Janeiro, from Tokyo to New York, from Helsinki to Paris. Over the years the choir has provided a perfect platform for singers to progress to other award-winning choral groups such as the BBC Singers, The Sixteen, King's Singers, Tallis Scholars and Cardinall's Musick as well as to solo careers in oratorio, opera and musical theatre. World-class pianists Jerome Lowenthal, Pavlina Dokovska, Graham Scott, Daniel Shapiro and Vladimir Valjarevic are joined by cellist Jean-Michel Fonteneau and violinist Herbert Greenberg for this piano extravaganza. Hear works including Bernstein’s Candide Overture, arranged for two pianos, and Smetana’s Rondo for Two Pianos, Eight Hands at the NCPA on August 19th.

French electro-pop, indie pop and French touch band Kid Francescoli is Mathieu Hocine and Julia Minkin. Since its creation in Marseilles in 2002, the group has drawn on a wide variety of influences, including Billie Holiday, Drake and Daft Punk to create four well-received albums. Eclectic Electric always brings a genre-spanning mix of the most danceable electronic music with something for everyone. Half/N/Half and veteran DJ Pierre Camerossi will bring their infamous hype to a beloved hutong hang out for a nonstop night of dance tracks.

DJ Half/N/Half (Yinmai O'Connor) is a half-Chinese and half-Irish Los Angeles native that got her start DJing DANCEiSM events in 2009. Her mixed ethnicity is reflected in her signature fusion of tech house and world music.Half/N/Half has opened for the world’s top DJs including NERVO, W&W, VINAI, Morgan Page, Plastik Funk, Fexlix Cartel, AC Slater, Girls Love DJs and Matthew Koma.

Notable Venues: Standard Hollywood, Alexandria, Belasco Theater, Avalon, Vic’s, V+ Lounge, CIRCLE, Live in Vac, Cargo, Cutie, Dada, Temple, Lantern, Yugong Yishan, Mako’s Live House, Rec Room, Chao and Xian.

Punk act New School Waste takes the stage at Yue Space on Friday August 17th. The band is made up of punk scene veterans and they have fans in Beijing, Taiwan and Hong Kong. They’ve released an album and an EP to popular and critical acclaim.
