A New Yorker since 1991, when he emigrated from Padua, Italy, jazz obsessed 16- year-old, Sotti drew on a broad palette of jazz-imparted musical knowledge. Playing with jazz greats Steve La Spina, George Garzone, Roy Hargrove, George Coleman, Mark Egan and more as well as writing and producing tracks with artists like Dead Prez, Ghostface Killah, Jennifer Lopez, K’Naan, Q-Tip and Whitney Houston while, as well as two collaborations Glamoured, from 2003, and Another Country featuring Fabrizio Sotti from 2012, with the great jazz diva, Cassandra Wilson. In parallel, he has built a career as one of the most charismatic and innovative jazz guitar virtuoso of his generation, documented in five accomplished recordings- This World Upside Down, from 1999, with jazz titans Randy Brecker, John Patitucci and Al Foster; Through My Eyes, from 2003, a solo guitar recital; Inner Dance, from 2010, with organist Sam Barsh, drummer Victor Jones, percussionist Mino Cinelu and harmonicist Gregoire Maret. In 2013, he released, A Few Possibilities, which featured a genre-crossing ensemble including Shaggy, Zucchero, Melanie Fiona, Ice T, M1 of Dead Prez, Claudia Acuna and others. And in 2016 the critically acclaimed Trio Album Forty with Peter Slavov on bass and Francisco Mela on drums.

On “Forty” Sotti collaborated with two jazz visionaries in their own right: bassist Peter Slavov and drummer Francisco Mela. “Peter is a complete musician with a strong melodic sense and thorough classical music background. He’s able to be free while respecting the tradition. Francisco also brings a melodic approach and is completely a free thinker. He’s a force of nature. When he swings, it swings hard, when he’s not swinging, it’s so creative, he fills up the music with something magical,” says Sotti.

With this new release, Sotti presents a departure for a new group that is only scratching the surface of possibilities with “Forty”. Says Sotti” this album shows where I am as a guitarist, improviser and composer and of what’s to come.”

The marvelous Dr. Lonnie Smith stands tall as the foremost maestro of the Hammond B-3 organ and at the age of 75 still reigns as a master of innovation and experimentation. The 2017 NEA Jazz Master may say that all he does is simply old school, but Smith paints new hues across the canvas of tradition with apolmb, as evidenced on his spirited new live album "All in My Mind". The album is his second for Blue Note since his 2016 return to the legendary label where he made a name for himself in the late 1960s, first as a sideman with saxophonist Lou Donaldson, and soon after as a leader with his own soul-jazz classics.

Born in 1942, Smith was introduced to the Hammond organ in the late 1950s by Art Kubra, who owned a local music store that Smith would visit daily. He began immersing himself in the records of Wild Bill Davis, Bill Doggett and Jimmy Smith as well as paying rapt attention to the church organ. Smith's first gigs were at the Pine Grill, a Buffalo club where he came to the attention of Lou Donaldson, Jack McDuff and George Bension, eventually joining Benson's quartet and moving to New York City.

Smith may have been away from Blue Note for 46 years, but he perfectly fits in with the current mission of label president Don Was to present the future movements of jazz as well as honoring those who forged the tradition. "Dr. Lonnie Smith returns to the Blue Note label with an album that reveals the enduring appeal of organ soul," raved The Wall Street Journal in a review of his 2016 homecoming album Evolution, adding that the album "showcases a variety of organ-soul stylings (and) demonstrates the versatility and currency of the style."

His early blues influences naturally led him to discover notable jazz pioneers such as Charlie Christian, Wes Montgomery, Django Reinhardt and George Benson. These jazz influences would leave a deep impression on Doug early on, which he would come back to years later.

Michał Ciesielski - Composer, arranger and jazz pianist. He completed his studies in the Academy of Music in Gdańsk, where he received his master’s degree as a jazz composer and jazz pianist. He also studied for a year in the Institut of Jazz in Katowice.

He has composed almost one hundred compositions (contemporary music, film and theatre music, chamber and symphonic music as well as pop songs and many more). He was awarded in several international and national music competitions such as: the International Krzysztof Komeda Composition Competition, Big Sky Jazz Festival, RCK Pro Jazz Festival, School & Jazz Festiwal, Novum Jazz Festival, European Jazz Contest and many more.

Apart from being the leader in Confusion Project, with which he recorded 3 albums and played over 100 concerts, Michał performs in many other bands, such as: Ad Shave, Do Se Sajd, Visegrad Quintet, Tribute To Turnau, Gaba Janusz Quintet Aga Maciaszczyk Quintet. He also performs with his solo project “Between Black & White”

He collaborated with many musicians, such as: Maciej Sikała, Piotr Lemańczyk, Dorota Miśkiewicz, Krystyna Prońko, Maciej Grzywacz, Marcin Gawdzis, Grzegorz Nagórski, Cezary Paciorek, Marcin Jahr or Brian Fentress.

As a pianist Michał toured all around Poland as well as Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Nederlands, Russia, China and Kazakhstan.

Although not as in your face and spastic as the aforementioned bands, The Foreigners no doubt are a rising star from the Guangzhou scene, and tonight they descend upon School for the Beijing stop of their current "Ending of the Start" album release tour! Set to play 15 dates across China over the next month, don't miss the Britpop indie rock musings of this foursome while they are in Beijing tonight!

New promoters on the block HongMiao DiGuo are a group of friends that live around the Hong Miao area near the east 4th Ring Road here in Beijing. After hanging out at School Bar every weekend for the past few years they decided to give it a try themselves and start booking a few shows, and tonight is their inaugural gig!

On the docket are rock n' roll mainstay Candy Monster, fast rising trio from the Hangzhou scene who have opened up for everybody from Casino Demon to Steely Heart make their Beijing debut tonight - Chuksy, the always fun electro rock n' roll vibes of Pacalolo, the ever authentic hip hop artist and poet Da Wei, and rounding out the line-up, hip hop rock combo act (featuring the founding member of HongMiao DiGuo on drums), Cypher T!
