Mid-October comes to Beijing every year and brings the same old same old: Falling temperatures; more people getting colds; some people forgetting it has got colder and going outside in short sleeves, then regretting it but being too proud to go back and put on something more suitable (maybe just us); worsening air quality; and the slight feelings of being down that come with us having somehow forgotten that Beijing is not always too hot and that the winters are too cold.

But don’t despair, because October also means imminent Halloween (which in our opinion is the best of the holidays - sorry Christmas, Chinese New Year, and International Children’s Day). Halloween, in turn, means the YEN Fetish Halloween Party. For those of you who haven’t been before – basically it's a rave, but with costumes. ‘Costumes’ can mean anything from professional level horror make up, through pure fetish gear (BDSM!), to standard Halloween attire. A place to be seen without being known, and for the serious costume lovers out there, a pretty competitive event to see who can be the most creative, professional, and original. Oh yeah, and great music, dancing, and general revelry.

It’s coming up. It’s on the 29th October. Mark your diaries / phones / tell Siri.

(You don’t have to dress up, but everyone will point, stare, and laugh if you don’t. They may also point and stare if you do, but that is good pointing and staring.)

There are going to be at least 250 bars hosting Halloween parties next weekend. If you dedicate enough of your time to reading all of their Wechat posts about them, you’ll probably take in enough corny Halloween puns to keep you from wanting to go out at all. So don’t do that! Just read this one. This is a pun-free zone.

Instead, we’ll just say this: on Saturday, October 29th, Great Leap Brewing and the Beijing LGBT Center are throwing our annual Halloween party! It involves beer, costumes, and giant checks! For confirmation that it will be a good time, check out these pictures from last year:

The epicenter of our Halloween party is at GLB Flagship Brewpub #12, where we are hosting a costume contest. Awards will go to the finest individual costume, most fabulous team, and best drag. First place finishers will receive a giant check worth 888 RMB in Great Leap beer! The party starts at 7pm. Furthermore, 10 RMB of every Imperial Pumpkin Ale sold that day will go to the LGBT Center.

Great Leap Original #6 is keeping it simple. Show up in a costume and you will be granted a free beer! Woo!

Great Leap Brewpub #45 will host a late night costumed after party. Once we finish up our costume contest, the crowd will head to 45 for pizza and more beer! After 9pm, 10 RMB from every beer will be donated to the Beijing LGBT Center.

You do not need to reserve a spot for this event, because it’s not that kind of party. It’s the kind of party where you show to drink a lot of beer and have a great time. That’s the right kind of party

Beijing traditional Halloween party-SPOOKED will be at legendary underground Eletronic music club LANTERN. Escape from your straight-jacket and release yourinner-insanity, follow the big lineup with special Halloween decor.

Lair of all the party animals in town, where all the supernatural beings can freak, slash and grindto an audio/visual bloodbath until dawn.
