Alarming Statistic

The amount in RMB (USD 1,830) that Xi Jinping makes a month, following his 62 percent pay rise. This is still staggeringly low compared to Obama's annual salary of USD 400,000. Civil servants will also see their first pay rise in six years in an attempt to curb graft.

Doesn't time fly! It seems like days ago that I was picking what remained of 2014 from my brain and forming it into a easy-to-digest ball of memories, resembling everything I hoped to avoid doing in 2015. Well, even with the metaphorical ball of life having been kicked well and truly into the past, things happen to be very much the same in ol' BJ, and praise the lord for that because the fun apparently just never stops! Proof comes in the form of the first of hopefully many Gulou Double Deckers, kicking off on Thursday and setting the tone for an excellent week of music, film, and food ahead.

Also, we wish all the best to you Aussies out there and hope you enjoy your official Boardshorts and Barbecue Day on Monday!

Make sure to keep up-to-date with goings on by checking out our Events page and our weekly WeChat newsletter by subscribing to "theBeijinger". Also, keep on sending us your pics via Instagram #thebeijinger_pekingpics and follow us @the_beijinger.
