Still the leading modern dance company in town, BMDC celebrated its tenth anniversary last year, with such milestones as a commissioned world premiere at the Venice Biennale choreographed by founding member Gao Yanjinzi. Thanks to an extensive international touring schedule – a European tour is in the works for 2007 – BMDC has become better known abroad than in China. To foster the growth of modern dance at home, the Company hosts regular classes for all skill levels at their Training Centre. (For updated class schedules, check their bilingual website.) The Company also holds open master classes once a month taught by BMDC members or invited international artists.
Visitors can watch rehearsals or attend company class (if you can keep up!). Performances and new choreography showcases always offer student ticket prices. Seating is limited, so call ahead to reserve.
