Review of Churros
This little stand on Nanluoguxiang seems to have stolen some of the thunder from the adjacent Wenyu Nailao with its own long lines. The attraction here are the churros - a.k.a. the "Spanish Doughnut" - fried bits of pastry that they serve with or without soft serve ice cream and chocolate sauce. Yes, the "ice cream" is machine-processed, yes, the chocolate syrup is completely artificial, and yes, the churros come off tasting like a cross between a mall-made snack and you tiao (油条), but there was still something utterly gratifying about wolfing down one of these with my wife and daughter in the heat of the mid-day sun.
