An avid entrepreneur and good friend of anyone living in the neighbourhood or just frequenting his bar Xiao Shuai (the man behind El Nido) has much to my delight opened a restaurant. Located around 100m west of his bar it is situated in a nice neighbourhood with huge open windows creating a very nice ambience inside.

His bar started out in a very trial and error kind of way adding more and more to his selection as he went along. Speaking to him gives me the impression he wants to keep the feeling of listening to people and changing and improving his business over time. Something I for one appreciate and I think adds to the feeling of a friendly guy who listens and caters to you.

What about the food? I haven't tried it all, but from the ones I've had so far the lentils on sausage plate is really good, the parma ham pizza is simple and delicious and the gnocchi are authentic and simply, good. Next time I will be trying the steak, which apparently comes from the French butcher on chunxiu lu (which by the way is the place to go to for quality meat). I did have the spaghetti bolognaise last time and the sauce was a bit on the light side. Something that was completely ok as we got complementary desserts for the small blunder.

All in all a very pleasant experience that for sure will be improving in the coming months.

Four stars cause I dont want to spoil him Smile

(edit: changed to five stars after last nights Parma, Veal and cheese roll!)
