I've been a fan of Carl and Great Leap since they first opened near Nanluoguxiang. The recent renovations of #6 (the original courtyard) were really done well creating a much more comfortable indoor space. No longer is #6 a strictly warm weather spot.
The newer location near Sanlitun is a whole different animal but is also a notch above the usual venues in the area. Same great beer and probably the best burgers in Beijing (although Home Plate, Local, and Slow Boat are in that conversation). The Sanlitun location also has abundant seating with everthing from barstools to booths.
Both locations are excellent representatives of an improving international F&B scene in Beijing and here's to hoping that the quality continues for years to come.
