Aptly named bar given its location!

Review of Side Street
5

Call it social nepotism, call it courteous reciprocity, call it a pretentious way to start a review, but this sentence didn't exactly go where you thought it would.

What Brian, Uday, and the rest of the Side Street team have managed to achieve with a former "semi-brotalitarian"* stomping ground (albeit a fun place to easily acquire hangovers) is fantastic. You've read about the food, you can assume they sell beer, but a bar is about more than what you put in your mouth.

It's about the fragrant spices that fill the nostrils as you fumble the door open; how have you been here so many times, yet you still can't quite remember which of the two doors it is that opens, and if it's a push or pull situation? It's about those four to the floor bangers at 7pm that you can politely ask to change, at least until the DJ turns up. It's about the art that hangs on the wall, and the artists that made the art on the wall hanging out while telling you the part about the art on the wall.

With arguably the best-tasting-yet-worst-named vegetarian burger in town, a rotation of craft beer deals, and an expat-art-hub vibe beginning to blossom, Side Street continues to deliver consistent service and quality. I will continue to return again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again.

*Overheard at a comedy night - I wish I was clever enough to come up with something like that. Unfortunately I can't remember who to credit.
