Alert, Social Butterflies: Be the Events Master at the Beijinger

Interested in curating Beijing's most complete Events section and getting published on the Beijinger website? You may want to consider interning with us.

As an events intern, you will participate in the collecting, posting, and editing of events on the Beijinger website, which will quickly make you omniscient about all the happenings in this fine city – all the happy hours, food deals, art exhibitions, sports leagues, live music concerts, opening and closing parties.

And you – yes you – will be the one to decide which event is more kickass than another based on your very refined taste and help curate and highlight what readers choose to do.

Whether you want to get involved in media, public relations or even thinking about starting your own hospitality business, this job will give you a solid stepping stone, offering you the chance to provide comprehensive insight into the dynamic city that Beijing is to an audience of approximately 10,000 unique visitors a day.

You will also help in planning, research and writing of blog posts. Better yet, if you have a particular niche or obsession – be it food, nightlife, shopping or sports – we can arrange it so that you get to write as much as possible about the things you care the most about.

When I started as an intern with the Beijinger, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to interview Beijing's favorite foreign citizen Stephon Marbury, and my writing has covered a variety of weird, gruesome, and altogether whacked-out subjects, including but not limited to, Beijing bikinis, fake condoms, Japanese porn stars, human breast milk, stabbings, the Chopstick Brothers, and divorce – worry not, I'm pretty normal and amiable in real life.

Most of our interns either end up working for us full time, getting scooped up by other media outlets that have seen their work published here, or studying overseas with their newly refined language skills.

Who you are:

• Living in Beijing and excited to be here;
• A social butterfly (introverts, bookworms and wallflowers need not apply);
• Eager to dive head first into Beijing's vibrant social scene;
• Versatile and quick to learn;
• Responsible and hardworking;
• Excellent written English and at least conversational Chinese; reading Chinese a definite plus.

What you'll get out of it:

What you will do:

• Post, edit and groom events on the Beijinger website;
• Attend press conferences and events of your liking;
• Assist in maintaining the Beijinger's social media presence;
• Pitch and write your own articles for thebeijinger.com

What you won't do:

• Make coffee;
• Filing;
• Take dictation;
• Sitting on your hands, whiling away the hours
• Anything that you are ethically/morally opposed to;
• Anything that you are banned from doing by a doctor;
• Get rich*
