Mandarin Monday: Road Test This Christmas Vocabulary at The Hutong Winter Fayre, Dec 12

It’s that time of year folks … tree lightings, special winter menus, and of course, the occasional Christmas carol 圣诞颂歌 Shèngdànsònggē:

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the mulled wine 热红酒 (rèhóngjiŭ) is so delightful,
And since we’ve got no place to go (unless you’ve checked our Yuletide event listings),
Let it snow, let it snow … wait … ok, it’s probably not going to snow; nevertheless, Christmas in the capital is still a jolly time of year.

In fact, there’s perhaps no better way to embrace the festive spirit than at The Hutong Winter Fayre, happening on Sunday, Dec 12 from 11am-5pm. Held in the Hutong’s fabled courtyard 院子 (yuànzi), the Christmas bazaar 圣诞市集 (Shèngdànshìjí) will feature an assortment of holiday treats from over 20 vendors.
