EAT: Obentos Delivery Deals and Bring-Your-Own-Cup Incentive, Caravan Social Sundays, Hatsune Monthly Special

Last week we wrote about our food resolutions for 2018 and luckily, as we enter the middle of January – traditionally a time when we might be tempted to give up on our resolutions – plenty of restaurants around Beijing have ways of helping us stick to our guns.

If you've resolved to put your phone down and reconnect with the world around you, take advantage of Caravan's Social Sundays deal and actually be rewarded for your efforts (apart from, you know, greater concentration and renewed connections with your loved ones). Head over any time on Sunday, check your phone in at the bar and get 50 percent off your food bill. Caravan is also a great choice for those doing Veganuary, as they have many vegan options on the menu, including vegan jambalaya and many a tasty mezze.

Speaking of vegan and vegetarian dishes, Obentos have recently re-upped their daily delivery deals, which include buy-one-get-one-free bento boxes and grain bowls every Monday. Other deals include 20 percent off teriyaki chicken or salmon on Tuesday, a free large smoothie with all orders on Thursday, and 20 percent off delivery all day on Saturday and Sunday.

Apart from tasty food, we also love Obentos because they are committed to using environmentally-friendly packaging. This month, they are extending that commitment by starting to sell KeepCups, an Australian-based brand of reusable cups. Buy a KeepCup for RMB 200 (on par with international pricing for the KeepCup) and get a free coffee, cocoa or matcha latte and then every time you use your KeepCup (or any other reusable cup) at Obentos you'll get 50 percent off takeaway coffee. This is just one of many ways you can try to reduce your waste footprint in 2018

Finally, just because the festive season is over doesn't mean you have to deprive yourself completely. Indulge with Hatsune’s January secret menu dish: flame-grilled beef short ribs. The grilled ribs are topped with a sauce made from, among other things, kiwi fruit and black pepper, and then served on a sheet of crispy nori seaweed. Don’t simply rule out this dish as an indulgence, however, as beef short ribs are full of protein, vitamins, and eight essential amino acids, not to mention that the dish is low-carb.
