Fiery Costume Ideas to Get You in the Mood for Our Hot & Spicy Festival, Apr 14-15

With just over a month and a half to go, things are heating up in preparation for our inaugural Hot & Spicy Festival on Apr 14-15. Forty of Beijing's top food vendors have already jumped onboard, each of them busily experimenting on new dishes from around the globe to test your spicy limits at Galaxy Soho.

Presale tickets for the event will be available imminently but for now, we're giving you plenty of time for the recommended dress code for the festival: hot and spicy! Depending on what spicy means to you, the possibilities are truly endless. Saying that, we've gathered a few ideas below to give you a little inspiration (you'll notice red is a theme in itself) and provided an online shopping link to a similar item where applicable:

Your Favorite Hot Sauce Container
You'll be the talk of the hotter-than-average crowd with a costume that conveys just how much you love chili sauce. Next step: Fill your insides with the stuff for a truly authentic experience.

Chiliman (Taobao link)
Or skip the sauce the completely and head straight for the good stuff with this Chiliman outfit. Special powers include profuse sweating, a penchant for crying when things heat up, and a tingling in the nether regions after too much malatang.

Lucky Chili Pepper Undies (Taobao link)
The benefit of wearing chili pepper undies is that not only will you look and feel great but most of the varieties out there are redder than China during National Day, rendering them the most auspicious item in your wardrobe.

Chili Oven Mitt/Industrial Brow Wiper (Taobao link)
No matter how heated things get at this year's Hot & Spicy Fest, you'll not only look and stay cool with these industrial-sized brow moppers, you probably won't even be able to pick up any of the items on offer. Upon second thought, maybe these are a better idea for anyone looking to spice things up in the comfort of their own home.

Friend-Repelling Chili Hat (Taobao link)
Not only will this hat soak up the sweat before it even has a chance to roll down your face, it will repel any potential awkwardness before it could even occur, thanks to a fine fashion balance between the unsightly and plain weird.

Spicy Crocs (Tmall link)
Undoubtedly not the hottest fashion item this summer, these chili-themed Crocs will still go down particularly well with your uncle who may or may not be in town during the festival.

Tear-Concealing Chili Shades
Finally, the bravest among you will be able to hide your pain and tears without fear of judgment with these chili shades should you meet your spicy match and need to retire to a corner of Galaxy Soho for a little sit-down and think about what you've done.

As you can see, your outfit can be as whacky as your imagination will allow. We look forward to the weird obscure creations you are able to conjure up come Apr 14-15!
