Capital Caff: Uoou Cafe Brings Bright Wanghong Flare to Gongti

It`s not like Beijing is not home to enough Cafés already: The once infamous (and partly literal) “Dirty” Bar Street and its surrounding area could nowadays, some five years after the “Great Brickening”, indeed more accurately be named “Pretty Café Alley”.

That, however, does of course not mean that new arrivals aren`t welcomed anymore – especially if they come with new refreshing concepts, setting them apart from the usual franchises à la Starbucks/Costa/Luckin Coffee, that can be found in every mall around town.

One such newcomer is Uoou Café which opened its doors just earlier this month. Located in Xingfu Sancun Wugang (幸福三村五巷), a little side lane off Xindong Lu, just one minute walking distance from Lily`s American Diner, it is conveniently accessible for anyone working or living in greater Sanlitun area.

It’s not easy to miss thanks to its thanks to its catchy red exterior, which makes it stand out from the other typical grey buildings in this area. Once you make it inside, you’ll be greeted by the same scarlet hue throughout, mixed with a little bit of purple. After ordering you can sit down either on one of the red stools or on a few purple cushions in front of the big window in the back.

Clearly, the founders of Uoou put a great focus on creating a chic design in order to attract not only the ordinary coffee-lovers, but also all those wanghong constantly in search of the new pretty background for their selfies. And indeed, Uoou Café brings these two elements together very nicely. Next to the usual coffees (Americano, Latte, Cappuccino) you will be surprised with some more exotic options, like a coffee with honey added to it, or an Ice-Latte with chocolate flavor (which I went for, at RMB 38).

The trademark drink will surely be the “Make Choice”, which comprises four little glasses with different innovative flavors, including one espresso. Compared to Starbucks or other chains the pricing is relatively decent for the regular coffees, only the special types will cost you a bit more than RMB 40.
