Incorrespondencias: Film Screening and Filmmaker Q&A Session
This Sunday (Apr 27) at 6.30pm, the Mil Gotas project will host a screening of Incorrespondencias (English: Incorrespondences), a short documentary film from Spanish photographer and filmmaker Eduardo de Armiñán that explores themes of remembering, connection to the past, and legacy. The screening will take place at the Huayuan branch of Beijing's International Bookstore and will be followed by a Q&A session in which Armiñán will be present to share his experience creating the film. He will also, along with Claudia Seryes, discuss the short film the two are currently making about their travels in China and Mongolia.
About the Film
What does it mean to be connected to a past we never experienced? How does one deal with the weight and expectations of legacy? How can we communicate with those who are no longer with us? What remains and how can we look at it?
These are some of the questions explored in Incorrespondencias, a short documentary film from Eduardo de Armiñán. The film presents a dialogue between de Armiñán and his grandfather, notable filmmaker and writer Jaime de Armiñán, through an interweaving of images, letters, and other fragments. Taking the perspective of a generation that has not experienced the political turbulence witnessed by their parents and grandparents, the film asks questions through fragments about the past and Madrid – what was it like? In the process of questioning and documenting – cutting, editing and reassembling his own and his grandfather’s images – de Armiñán must confront the permanent photographic gaze of the past.
About the Filmmaker
Eduardo de Armiñán is a young Spanish photographer and filmmaker from Madrid. Born into a family of noted Spanish screenwriters and filmmakers, de Armiñán studied at Madrid's Work in Progress acting school before going on to study musical production in London, followed by beginning his film studies (focusing on documentary studies and cinematography) in 2022 at the Escuela de Cinematografía y del Audiovisual de la Comunidad de Madrid (ECAM), also known as The Madrid Film School.
In 2024, de Armiñán created two short films, Eco and Incorrespondencias. Incorrespondencias was nominated in the category of Documentary Short Films at the 28th Málaga Film Festival.
