Xicheng-Salzburg Music Week Brings Mozart to the Capital

The Xicheng-Salzburg Music Week is underway at the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center! The week-long celebration, lasting from now to Nov 3, is supported by the state government of Salzburg and the Mozart Foundation. It is the Mozart Foundation’s first authorized Mozart-themed exhibition (and the first in China), and it presents a number of first-time highlights. Join the celebration of Mozart’s life and art through a number of exhibitions, musical performances and activities for the whole family.

The exhibition takes “Mozart's journey through space and time” as the main theme and reconstructs Mozart's legendary life through the fusion of technology and art. It is divided into a tour of the composer’s childhood, a look at his career at the court in Salzburg, the three stages of free creation in the later years of his life, and incorporates static exhibition areas such as manuscript reproductions, historical images and scene restorations as well as immersive technology, interactive spaces and cultural and creative areas.

A series of six professional musical performances will present to the public an artistic feast for the eyes and ears.

Today, Oct 28, at 7.30pm in the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Centre’s Lyric Theater, the Mozarteum Quartett Salzburg will present the week’s opening concert. The quartet, made up of the leading musicians of the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, will perform three of Mozart's masterpieces for string quartet: String Quartet No.14 in G Major K.387, String Quartet No.15 in D Minor K.421 and String Quartet No.17 in B Major K.458. Tickets for the concert start at RMB 100, and can be purchased on the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center’s mini program by scanning the QR code below.

The Mozart Week exhibition is free of charge. Visitors are allowed from 10am to 5pm from Tuesday to Sunday (last entry at 4.30pm).
