We're into the quarterfinals of the Beijinger's 2014 Burger Cup, with a mere eight establishments left from the original field of 64 – and this round is only open until Thursday!

Some great burgers got knocked out in the last round, and – we're anxious to see who will make the final four. Help us with the decision by casting your opinion here. May the best burger win!

Three bar masters. Three “secret” ingredients. One judge. Would Beijing’s cocksure mixologists fumble when faced with an unusual condiment or unfamiliar fruit? Or can they concoct a drink to impress one tough taster? In the spirit of Iron Chef, we put our bartenders to the test by announcing a secret ingredient, giving them ten minutes to conceive of and create a mix, and finding out just how creative a cocktail can get.

This month's iron ingredients include Wang Zai milk, grass jelly, and Thai fish sauce.

Beijing beer drinkers rejoice: Jing A are soft launching their pop-up taproom in 1949 (south Sanlitun) this weekend. On Friday and Saturday night they're holding sit-down tastings of their beer and food taproom menu. The menu is RMB 100 per person, including any two beers of your choice, shared snacks for the table and a choice of a main course (a variety of Andy's Craft Sausages, plus their "signature grilled cheese").

Our pre-tournament seedings have proven accurate as The Burger Cup rolls on to the quarterfinals, with most top seeds in all four brackets moving on to the matches that will decide The Final Four.

In Bracket A, No. 1 seed Great Leap sent 4corners (#4) packing, while 2-seed The Local stuffed Biteapitta (#3), setting up a final with the bracket’s top two seeds.

He’s been hailed as one of indie rock’s premier pianists. But fans may be surprised to learn that Spencer Krug was never a keyboard prodigy.

“I was not a good student… I was a teenager who wanted to do other things — skateboard, go to punk shows, learn the bass, and kiss girls,” the solo artist known as Moonface (now that his beloved Montreal troop Wolf Parade has disbanded) says in an interview with the Beijinger. He adds: “It wasn't until I went to music school years later, as a composition major, that I became a passable pianist.”
