This year’s Jingkids International School Expo (JISE) is a not-to-miss event for parents searching for the perfect school for their children. Taking place for one day only at the Hilton Beijing, this will be a day packed with in-person meetings with the city’s top international schools, where you can get a real feel for each school and its philosophy.

We’ve also set up a series of PechaKucha presentations by schools to share what it is they find the most important.

What’s PechaKucha?

“PechaKucha” is a dynamic and concise presentation style that originated in Japan, and which has since spread globally as a unique format for sharing ideas and stories. These presentations offer an interesting and efficient way to learn about international schools in Beijing due to their dynamic and concise format. With 20 slides, each lasting only 20 seconds, presenters are compelled to distill key information, providing a focused and streamlined overview of their schools. In other words, you’ll get a highly concentrated dose of information and won’t have to sit through any long presentations.

This ensures that the audience receives a comprehensive snapshot without getting bogged down by lengthy details. Moreover, featuring multiple schools in a PechaKucha event allows prospective parents and students to explore a diverse range of educational offerings in Beijing within a relatively short time, making it an efficient and captivating way to gather valuable insights.

Be sure to sign up for this year’s JISE by scanning the QR code in the poster.

The annual Jingkids International School Expo (JISE) is back in March and we are excited to usher in a new era of connecting families with schools in the most effective manner possible.

Last month, we asked you, our readers, to tell us what you would like to see in a school choice fair and we heard you: it’s more important to you to meet teachers and principals (rather than marketing and admission personnel); you would like to have a wide variety of schools present; and you’d like personalized guidance on how to choose a school. So that’s what we’re focusing on bringing you at this year’s JISE.

We’re also switching our format of having larger formal lectures to friendly small-group sessions where you can have more personal conversations with education experts and schools. These short sessions will be running several times each day, so it doesn’t matter when you come – you’ll be able to hear the info session you want. As for the topics we’ll be discussing? They are the ones you’ve told us you’re most interested in: from how to choose a school for your child; what schools offer in terms of extracurriculars; to the differences between the various national school systems.

On top of this, we’re proud to say that at this year’s JISE, you will have the exclusive opportunity to interact with several special guest schools from Japan and Singapore that do not usually attend events in Beijing.

The annual Jingkids International School Expo (JISE) has been connecting parents to the right schools since 2012, all in one place. The 2023 JISE will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel Beijing on March 11-12.

Attendance is free. To sign up for JISE 2023, scan the QR code in the poster.

When should your child start kindergarten? Are they child getting the right kind of international education? What’s the difference between a Bilingual Approach and a Hybrid Curriculum?

Getting straight A’s in school isn’t easy for kids, but choosing the right school isn’t easy for parents either. The term “international school” covers a wide range of curriculums in Beijing and they all differ from one another. That’s why, before you send in your child’s application for the prestigious international school that your friend recommended, make sure you’re familiar with all the options in Beijing.

The annual Jingkids International School Expo (JISE) has been connecting parents to the right schools since 2012. Prospective parents can meet the decision-makers at Beijing’s top international school all in one afternoon.

HOW MUCH: RMB 50 for members of RASBJ, RMB 100 for non-members

ABOUT THE EVENT: The vast majority of people alive today have come of age in a world of remarkable stability, presided over by either one or two superpowers. That is not to say the world has been peaceful; but it has, to a great extent, been predictable. As an increasing number of great powers jostle for regional supremacy, as well as competitive advantage in nuclear technology, artificial intelligence, space exploration, and trade, our world has become more fragile, unpredictable – and combustible. The outbreak of global war among today’s great powers seems increasingly likely. Such a war, as Odd Arne Westad powerfully argues in this urgent book, would be of a magnitude and level of devastation never before seen.

To understand the threats that face us in this complex new terrain, we must look to the lessons of the past, and especially the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries – a time when Great Powers clashed and sought regional dominance, nationalism and populism were on the rise, and many felt that globalisation had failed them; a time when tariffs increased, immigration and terrorism were among the biggest issues of the day, and a growing number of people blamed the citizens of other countries for their problems. A time, in other words, that carries eerie parallels with our own.

The Coming Storm: Power, Conflict, and Warnings from History will be published on March 3, and may be ordered in advance.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Odd Arne Westad is a Norwegian scholar of modern international and global history, with a specialisation in the history of Eastern Asia since the 18th century. His most recent book (with Chen Jian) is The Great Transformation: China’s Road from Revolution to Reform (2024). His new book, The Coming Storm: Power, Conflict, and Warnings from History, will be published in March 2026.

ABOUT THE MODERATOR: Nicholas Burns is the Roy and Barbara Goodman Family Professor of the Practice of Diplomacy and International Relations at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. Burns worked in the United States government for over three decades. During his tenure as the U.S. Ambassador to the People's Republic of China from 2021 to 2025, Burns helped to stabilise US-China relations amid tensions.
