Fast Food Watch: Burger King's New So-Called "Dragon Burger"

We've seen this before: the burger available in singles, double, triples, and even quadruples.

Seems strange that this concept, which we last saw from McDonald's during the 2010 World Cup, has reared its head now. It's not Chinese New Year, the 2014 World Cup is seven months away, and Christmas also doesn't appear to be Burger King's best time to launch a limited time product with a dragon on it. However, the Dragon Burger has appeared at the chain's Beijing stores, and, well, it's more smoke than fire.

The Dragon Burger is basically McDonald's regular bacon cheese burger with a slightly spicy salsa. The single version goes for RMB 20, with each additional burger patty costing RMB 4 extra, up to four patties for RMB 32. Another RMB 12 makes it a set meal.

The Dragon Burger tastes like...a bacon cheeseburger from Burger King with some spicy salsa. The first lesson, therefore, is don't buy only a single patty. Get at least a double. Heck, for a limited edition product, just get the big one with four patties and cut it in half or quarters depending on the size of the patty.

Despite wanting to be a big, spicy, beef conflagration, the Dragon Burger would be more appropriate for a Chinese Zodiac year like the rabbit, not snake or dragon. A proper Whopper will be more satisfying than this flame-broiled flop.
