Jonathan Alpart Signs Off With Six Band Blowout at School Bar This Friday (Oct 9)

It looks like CRI’s The Sound Stage is ending their transmission, as their beloved host and one-time Beijinger intern, Jonathan Alpart, will be returning stateside. Fortunately for us, he won’t be leaving without one final blowout at School Bar (Oct 9), featuring a wide variety of local acts that will surely make your heart swoon and eardrums pop.

This final showcase will present a handful of his favorite bands rocking out and saying their farewells to their departing comrade. Bands like Hang On the Box (one of China’s first all female punk rock groups), Gate to Otherside, Hard Candy Revolution, Jajatao, Guangzhou-based rapper WOOTAAC, and more will be tearing School apart with their individually distinct styles ranging from punk, psych, and hip hop.

The Sound Stage has been showcasing some mighty fine punk and underground rock acts on the almost 100 (96 to be exact) made for web videos they have produced over the past three and a half years. This series has been a pivotal platform for those seeking out the best in Chinese underground music. We have no idea how China Radio International plans to replace this hole in their programming, but Jonathan has undeniably left gigantic shoes to fill.

Go here to check out more about The Sound Stage and revel in the hours upon hours of studio recording sessions from some of China’s brightest musical acts.
