Beijing's New Airport to Have Seven Runways and Serve 100 Million Passengers

Beijing is clearly miffed by the fact that Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is the world's busiest, and that Beijing's is only second. Local officials are not kidding around as they build Beijing Daxing International Airport in southeastern Beijing: it will serve 100 million people and eventually have seven runways, although it will open with four, according to China Daily.

Our guess is that the other three runways will never be built. Initially the airport will be designed to serve 72 million annual passengers, but that it includes an option for expansion that would allow it to handle 28 million more flyers per year, and add three more runways. Hartsfield-Jackson currently has five runways and handles 95 million passengers per year. Either way, wow and wow. Beijing's new airport is due to open in late 2018.

Beijing cancelled about 400 flights due to the recent snow. And once again we ask: why why why are you not taking the train, at least between Beijing and Shanghai? If you're not taking the fast train between these two cities, you're making a mistake.

Lastly for this Tuesday, Beijing saw record numbers of people visiting local sites on Sunday in the snow. That's awesome. It was certainly chilly, but it's great to see Beijingers and others enjoying our sites at one of their prettiest times.

One road flat safe.
