it'll take me 1002 nights to forget this place
that's going to be brief.
Foodwise that place is terrible. Everything I had there last night was not even close to authentic Middle Eastern food. I think it was for the first time in my life I did not finish a bowl of salad. Well, it happened there. Hummus was stale and sour (no, not from real lemon juice), it had some olive oil on it, which wasn't bad, but you would expect a wee bit more. The veg spinach dish was not far from a Chinese stir-fry. The only thing I enjoyed was bread. Oh, and baklava was only baklava the top 5 millimeters. I will never go back there, even if someone offered me a gratis dinner.

Used to be better
Been around here 13 years. I can't remember when I first went to 1001 Nights, but the last time I went (a few months ago), I was very disappointed in the food. Stringy meat I remember especially. Has anyone else experienced this? A few years ago I thought the food was really excellent. Just seems to have slipped. The service, however, has always been surly.

Decent Food, Nice Entertainment but Horrible Service
In my opinion the food is fine, decor is fun and the show in the evening is great. But the service ruins everything.
I went to dinner with a few friends and we ordered two glasses of water along with our meal, which no one seemed to want to bring to us. Asking about the glasses of water throughout our meal to at least 4 different waiters and waitresses, we still could not get anyone to care enough to bring them. We finally stopped a waiter and explained for a few minutes, to really get the waiter motivated to bring our water. By this time we were already completely finished eating. On top of that, a Corona that we ordered had clearly gone bad and we were unable to exchange it, we still had to pay for a bad bear that was undrinkable.
At the end of the meal when we were trying to pay the bill, even with over 4 waiters in a room with only 4 tables occupied, no one bothered to come to our table. We were ignored for over half and hour.
And yes, I know service is generally mediocre in China, I have had my fair share of experiences being here for almost 4 years and I do not expect high-class service (or anything near that). But when you go to a place like 1001 Nights, with their prices, show, etc., I really expect to have decent, average service and to not be ignored by every single waiter and waitress. I would rather not visit 1001 Nights again, there are other places to get good food and fun entertainment without the hassle.

loud music, good dancers,average food
This place can be summed as
Good dancers-this is pretty consistent. They have some good dancers and this has always been good.
The food is a bit of a disappointment as the kebabs and rice could be better , in taste ofcourse.
Recently rumi also does not do a great job ,but rice at rumi is better. But no dancers at rumi.
There is booze here, not at rumis, so this is thumps up.
The music can be loud sometimes and can be irritating.
Unless you want to watch some belly dancing, nothing too great going for this place.

Still searching for good Middle Eastern food...
As a huge Mediterranean/Middle Eastern foodie, I was so excited to come here, especially after reading great reviews of this place. Wish I had gone to Rumi instead. Walked in, and heard the blaring music, and then totally deterred by the belly dancer shimmying over toward our table. Awkward. Dinnertime was periodically interrupted by the blasting music and belly dancers whose skill varied greatly, though none of them were really that good. The food portions were disappointing, and nothing really tasted THAT good, except for the wide variety of desserts in the back of the menu. Service was fine, though the creepy old men ogling us from nearby were not. Disappointed, and will definitely not be recommending this place to anyone. I have no idea why it's popular among Beijinger readers... maybe I just ordered the wrong dish? Except I tried three of them (from friends' plates) and all were pretty lackluster. Oh well.

Pure arabic food!
Although you'll find great Arabic dishes, specially the delicious mixed kebab, but it would be very difficult to talk to your friend, simply because the music is too loud! If you like architecture, you'll be inspired by the Arabic-Islamic architecture which is certainly magnificent and beautiful...

Interesting place with live performance
The food is typical, i like the way of their serving, furthermore you can enjoy their live performance on the spot, i would say it is quite interactive. One of my friend even went on the stage with the danser:)
If you have a bounch of friends, you can go there.

one of my favoirate Middle eastern restaurant
My first try of this chain restaurant was in Shanghai, and was keep going there time after time bacause of the great meat. I love the kebabs. I tried the location in solana, the place is big!, very big, and the deco is as middle-estern as the other ones in China. Food is good, but my favorate is their 5 kuai Nan bread(if i remeber right, it's 3 piece, quite cheap). When it's hot coming out of the kichen, wow!
price can be vary depends on what you eat. two girl cost around 150kuai, and we cannot finish the dishes.

Nights of fun and good food
So already this is my wife's and my favourite resteraunt in Beijing. Nice and handy 2 minutes walk from Sanlitun you can enjoy some entertainment in the regular belly dancing every 30 minutes, if your wife lets you watch. Even if you don't enjoy the dancing for itself it makes a great talking point. The food is also pretty good. Some excellent dolmadas and lamb and vegetable dishes. Great decor and atmosphere and we love it!
The only problem I have with the place is when they play a very tacky version of Happy Birthday (cha-cha-cha!) at full volume. On one hand its good you can get your birthday noted but on the other please lower the volume and use a better version!

Give it a try
Even if it's just ground chickpeas and parsley, it's always worth it to try their falafel and hummus dishes. And sit outside on a nice day watching people from all walks of life passing by, I like to enjoy this modern part of Beijing in this way.

wonderful mid-eastern food
This restaurant has great food at reasonable prices. The restaurant is most enjoyable when the weather is nice so you can sit outside on their patio. There are belly dancers who occasionally dance throughout the night.

Quality going down
We have been eating here for quite a long time now but on the last 2 visits we all felt that the quality of bbq is not like before.
I think the management should look into this.

Tried once with my girl. Like the manager and dancing more than food.
The meet big umbrella looks nice but I don't have that kinda meat dish any more. Worth a try for slim and young definitely
Soup is nice. Veg is nice. I would put my own prejudice on judging them. I think the dish is made easy as all their countries' dishes as the flour , the meat and veg are all not as complicated prepared as in other countries. Short cut but preserving natural flavors.
Be there for sure if you are fond of dancing girls with very good face and body ( some are fat, some are thin, but very good tempo , sexy too )
I gave 4 stars.

Bellydancing is cool
The chinese girls dance entertain quite well. The food can be better.Service was not fast at first but when we involved the Arab guy we got things worked out.
The decor too makes you feel you are in an Middle Eastern city.

Very Noisy
It could have been the best bet in Sanlitun area provided they can reduce their sound level.

Fresh beer
Though I enjoyed the music and the food ,the fresh draft beer was good.
The breads, Iranian kebab ,hummus, rice was my order,Kebab was good ,rest ok.
The waiters tend to disappeaer as they were bussy when we went .
The wall carvings ,ceilings are well done.

Arabian atmostphere but loud
The Arabian settings are well done.
The draft beer made us comfortable as it was served quickly.
The kebabs were good. The music was too loud for us, so we shifted out . But it was chilly and we winded up much earlier than we would have otherwise had it been pleasant music inside or pleasant weather outside.
The wait staff or the manager was good to us.

Good food bad service
Visited yesterday after a long time. The food was as good as always, but the service standard has really gone down. They are too busy and can only attend a guest after long pauses. I think they needs to hire more staff and train them well.
