Liu Lixin, metal guitarist (he plays in Junxiesuo – Armory) and former manager of Nameless Highland, opened this Wudaokou venue in late 2004, and with it, brought real rock back to the 'hood where it all began. Their sound system, according to one able-handed tech, is "the most powerful in town." Of course, our able-handed tech doesn't often make it out to Wudaokou. But a healthy number of Beijing's best live acts – and some mediocre midweek fill-ins – do. The sweat-soaked atmosphere comes complete with mugs of local draft beer and table football. The crowd is mostly made up of local headbangers, but there's usually at least one foreign guy moshing with his shirt off.

The HEARTH of ROCK in BEIJING

Look no further. This is where the real rock scene in China has it's pulse, passes through, and thrives. I'm not just saying that because I've played there. Long live Liu Li Xin and the spirit of rock in Wudaokou! History has passed through this joint for sure in a colorful and loud fashion. In short, a kick ass joint!

Metal Battle

the location is not quite convenient, but you don't deny it's been a reputed bar for a long time. The owner is the bassist in AK47 BAND, so this place is famous in the beijing rocker crowd. and the quialty of the performences there can be guaranteed. As a metal music fans gather place, most of the shows r heavy metal music.

Different Kind of Place

Went last night for a Chinese-Reggae concert and thoroughly enjoyed my visit for the music not so much the place.

The place is simple, small with lots of rooms divided up with a medium size dance floor. The drinks are cheap and expensive at the same time. If you want a Tsingdao only 15 (maybe 20 on usual nights) but go for the spirits then 35-40.

The sound system is very good and can clearly be heard everywhere. Lack of seats definately makes this place awkward for the non dancers amongst groups but its really a place just to enjoy the music.

The staff behind the bar are useless and just palin slow, so, make sure you get to the bar early before you run out!

Go for the band or with friends, not for the drinks or enviroment.

Mixed feelings

This place is both disappointing and appealing at the same time.

+++ :

The sound system is really quite powerful and the balance was good each time I went there, even though sometime up to 10 bands use it every week-end night. The line-up is usually quite good with bands playing the same style the same night (you won't likely hear death metal after emo punk for instance). I think this place does a decent job putting up gigs and finding quality bands to play.

The crowd is almost completely chinese most of the time and it's great to socialize with fellow headbangers so far away from the holy lands of metal.

There are almost no seats in the entire place, and yeah that's a plus, we're talking metal here folks, you don't go listen to that kind of music and sit down drinking your beer.

--- :

The drinks!!! It's ridiculously expansive considering the kind of venue it is... While you can get a pint of draft beer for 15 kuai at the D22 just a few steps away from this place, here you will only get a small bottle of qingdao for 20 kuai. The stronger stuff is also disappointing (35-40) and they use the smallest glasses available around, adding a bunch of ice on top of that. THAT is really not the spirit and it really angered me.

The staff isn't friendly for sh**. No use trying to be nice to them or try to have a talk, that's pretty gay.

It closes rather early most of the time- last time was a saturday night and everything was over at around 12h30am, again compared to D22 where sometimes bands keep playing late in the night, it's very disappointing.

So all in all, it's not such a bad choice to go there because as far as I know it's the only 100% metal place in all Beijing- hard to get by in China. But unless there's a very good line up I wouldn't go back there very often- D22 rocks just about as much and at least you can get drunk safely for your wallet.
