Great deal

I went there with my family last weekend as I was recommended by colleagues, and we all had a great great time!
Beautiful and relaxing place, weekend is the time to go there for Brunch: we had tapas, main and dessert at a great price if you compare it with the regular menu. Free flow of cocktail/sparkling for 88rmb didn't hurt <:P

STUNNING !!!

First time in this Spanish place.

Incredible prawns, the chef was right, they sell them by piece !! The chef told us .... don't take this prawn if you are not going to suck the head.... hahahaha the whole table we was laughing at him, but sh..t ! he was right. I have to say it was the best prawn i never had in my life. They even serve them with a wet towel (as this man is asking everybody to eat the heads).

The whole thing was great, tapas and main courses but the hazelnut ice cream was the peak, i'm a chocolate addict and this chocolate ganach matched very well with the ice cream.
They convince us to come for brunch....... but not prawns for brunch :-(

Will visit tomorrow again for brunch.

Perfect!

Had my second meal at Agua today and finally got to try the famous suckling pig. The skin was crispy and meat is juicy. The sauce also goes very well with the meat. Shallots were perfectly cooked and not a sorry burnt mess like the last shallots I had in another restaurant.

The service is also very good. It's as good as the service at Boulud and Sadler. I'm surprised the Chinese staff remembered what wine I had in my first visit a few days ago.

Keep it up!

The heaven

The place to be.
How a place who opened 4-5 months ago,can rich this quality in service?
The restaurant was packed from 8 till 11, it was tuesday!!!
Anyway, we didn´t have a reservation for that day because we supose that the place will be
half full, but what a surprise!! Fullybook.
The manager tried to find us a table, but was imposible, all the tables full. But at the end,
he explain us about the VIP rooms, but we didn´t want to pay any fee for it.Then the manager
offer us the VIP room as a present for our first visit to the restaurant !!
Food was amazing, tasty, well presented, one of my friends went to Spain the last chinese new year and
was saying that the tapas was even better than in Madrid or Sevilla. But the more spectacular dishes were the
scallops with the celery puree and black olives, wow !! the impressive crackling suckling pig ,the skin brokes like
a crystal glass and the meat was so tender, the heaven!.
As a dessert i took the chocolate coulant..... excellent was the coconut toffee sauce and when i break the cake, the chocolate
was perfectly running, but i have to say , this chocolate was a good one. I have tried many chocolate coulant cakes and some places uses an average chocolate and charges you more than 60 or 70 kuai. (this one was like 48 kuai).

I will be back soon for sure, Agua is the deal.

3 Perfect lunch.

For less than 100kuai impossible to get a better deal in such a fine dining restaurant.
Congratulations to the French manager who also let us try a special sausage made by chef jordee.

The perfect night !!

The best St Valentines day i remember since i met my girlfriend. It was my first time at this restaurant, wooooow !! Impressive setting and deco. All in wood, floor, half way walls, perfect light, velvet courtains, very romantic. They offer us two menus, and the second one seemed better than the first, of course more expensive, but St Valentines is once a year ! Five hundred something per person. We loved the glass of champagne on arrival, the appetizers including a reserve belota ham, the lobster rice....... just AMAZING,juicy inside, the rice perfectly cooked, not like a crackling rissotto, we could feel the sea in our mouth. Outstanding was the wagyu beef tenderloin..... tender, with a thin salt and pepper crust, we ordered medium rare and was perfect.

Very impress about this Spanish restaurant. The restaurant was packed and service, cuisine and ambience was 10 points.

We will come back to try the a la carte menu.

Great food spoiled by bad service.

We were at Agua the same night as the reviewer below, but had a rather different experience. Food was fine, though they were serving a more limited menu due to seafood supply issues over CNY.
Service, on the other hand, was sub par and in some cases just plain rude (the female chinese maitre d was unsmiling, abrupt and made all of our party feel as if we were really giving her mafan)

Water for the table had to be requested several times, along with bread. Wine glasses were repeatedly cleared from the table while still containing wine, unfinished plates were whisked away etc.
This was my forth visit to Agua, and though I love both the space and the food, they really need to train their service staff, as the poor standard really gets in the way of an otherwise fine dining experience.

Great experience.

A little hard to find.
With not reservation at all we arrive around 9pm and ask for a table for 2 they told us to wait for
at least 10-20min, fare enough, the place was packed.
The waitress give us the table in a very luxurious booth.
The wine selection was well thought out and a bottle of spanish champagne suited us well.
My boyfriend ordered the Ravioli for entree which is to die for, highly recommended.
The lobster was fantastic, perfectly cooked and although the waiter seemed a little suprised at my order (especially when he tried to load 2 serves worth on to one plate) I did my best to eat it all. Certainly finished all of the lobster but not all of the rice.
The dessert was outstanding, we had the chocolate coulant with the thin and crispy biscuit on top.

I have to say that the place was full even 2 days before Chinese New Year.
I loved the music, service, food and the booths, we were there for at least two hours, so confortable place.

We will go back for sure.

not up to the competition

we and my missus popped by last night. we had made a reservation for 2 having been turned away without one last week and we arrived on time at 8pm. upon our arrival there was minor confusion as they took us to a table which was already occupied... then after a confused look from the waiter.. he then redirected us to a table set for 3... not very smooth so far...

we decided to go for the tasting menu figuring it should contain the best of what the restaurant has to offer and also a couple of glasses of cava. red wine arrived instead, so we had to get the drinks menu back and point to the cava. again. 15 minutes later still no cava so i got up and approached the person who looked like they were in charge of front of house. i explained the situation and was told that the waiter must have forgotten....

as we waited for the soup to arrive we noticed the tables around had bread, we decided to wait and see if we would get some before the soup arrived. nah. soup arrived. still no bread...still no wine.. we asked the waiter if complimentary bread is available, the waiter seemed surprised. the soup was ok, pumpkin soup is hard to mess up. nicely presented with the poached egg too.

the cava and bread eventually arrived, but we had to tell the waiters to take away the other wine glasses on the table
the subsequent courses came out at a good pace and had nice portion sizes. the sea bass was well cooked and the mushroom puree it sat on was well seasoned. the veal and plum was frankly a disappointment, it sounds so good on paper but as eaten there just wasn't enough flavour in the plums to contrast with the soft veal. the dessert was better, good textures and flavours.

asked for the bill and the paper receipt was plonked down on the table. nice. very discreet.

so all in all the food was average to good and the service was average to poor. very disappointing.

what separates good restaurants from others is not only the about the flavours of their food but the way a customer feels when they are in their establishment.

Agua is not up to the competition and is nowhere near what it promotes itself to be.

perhaps they should visit their neighbours at mosto for some tips....

BEWARE! Aqua will send you SMS spam if they get your mobile number.

Every two weeks I get SMS spam from Aqua. What kind of crappy foreign restaurant has to stoop to these types of marketing tactics? Why don't they have a guy on the traffic light hand out flyers to cars? Business must be really bad. Imagine the corners they have to cut, if it has come to this. We host a lot of business dinners and receptions in town. Aqua will never be on the approved venue list.

Whos' the real Franco?

The reason why a tasting menu has to be had by the entire table is because the kitchen has to ensure that all the entrees and main courses arrive at the same time for the entire table. A tasting menu sometimes consist of 5 or even more courses (and usually in tasting portions only, not full portion) whereas people not ordering the tasting menu tend to have 2 or 3 courses. So the people who opt out of the tasting menu will be sitting around while the people who ordered the tasting menus get their series of mini courses. The kitchen operations will quickly get out of control if every table were to order the tasting menu for some diners only. That is why is is absolutely standard practice that the tasting menu has to be ordered by the whole table. That's my 2 bit as I used to work in restaurants !

I have eaten in AGUA and it's simply sensational - so I'd suggest swallowing one's pride this once and enjoy the meal. Jordi is not only a great chef he's got a wicked sense of humour! We will be back very soon and often!

2 friends in our table of 4 wanted to try the Chef's Tasting Menu. The management informed us in no uncertain terms that if even 1 person in the table orders the Chef's Tasting Menu, we ALL have to order the Chef's Tasting Menu. (This requirement was NOT mentioned in their menu.)

We offered to slightly separate the tables so that 2 friends sat at 1 table and the 2 friends who wanted the Chef's Tasting Menu sat at the "other" table. Nope. The manager didn't even attempt to be nice about it, and WE were being nice and trying to find a solution.

Now, I've met chef Jordi before. He seems nice. His homemade sausages seem delicious. But, I doubt I will ever get to try them. All 4 of us got up and left. Only the waitress seemed sorry and apologized. So, for that, Agua gets 1 star.

I suppose Agua is Franco's Spanish cuisine where the management tells you what you will order to eat.

Great Night in Agua

I was invited by the building owner to dinner in Agua. Her description was pretty exaggerating but I have to say she's right!

We took the VIP room - it's 2 become 1 when you have more guests. The lighting was just perfect with 2 beautiful chandeliers. I love the 2 big windows even there's no garden outside, afterall, a real view is precious in VIP rooms.

Raviolis of beef and porcini was my favoriate. How can they make these round dumplings so yummy?

Suckling pig, always the classic brand dish, Chef Jordi push the trailer in like a magician, cut the little darling into 8 pieces - I want to say "Can I have the bigger part" but I hold it back successfully.

Those tapas... so good to share, garlic shrimp was cooked just right, tender and fresh like no one can present this way.

Set lunch always has the best pricing, I can see they charge only RMB88 for 2 dishes and RMB99 for 3 dishes -- so convenient for me! =P~

so glad to have real spanish food back in town

After being a regular at the old Agua, I was very excited to hear they have finally opened their new restaurant so close to the embassy area where I work every day. Chef I loved your food in the old place and I am as impressed by your new menu and the prices too. Great value and the Tapas and maincourse are great value for the quality, service and whole environment of the place.

By the way the decor is much better too. It is clean and welcoming and definitely not pretentious at all.

The service was amazing by the restaurant manager; Richard I think was his name. Well done. The whole table was very impressed by your attention to detail and your staffs quick and not in your face style which is sometime hard to find in Beijing.

The sangria was also a huge hit with us! I want the recipe please.

Love It! =D>

Good but not incredible

I went there the other day, decor is simple but ok, a cloakroom would not be too much for such a place in the winter. Service is excellent, nice, quick, smiley and efficient. Food is good but no surprise... I have not tasted the suckling pig, will get back there just for that...
