Our visit was a Saturday night with a group of 8 for dinner.

Nice things first... The atmosphere was jolly enough, although the Filipino band is only average quality, they were still cranking out popular hits, and the bar was full.

The beer, fine - in fact I guess this why you would come here. A bit pricey, but can't complain about the beer itself.

The food - well that was dreadful, woeful and over priced. Enough said, all 8 of us agreed that the mains were dire, and most went back only half eaten. The classic German Schintzle was a piece of unknown meat, but not veal. Just awful!

So all in all - I agree with the previous German native who describes this place as only average, and not a great ambassador for German food and culture.

Two thumbs down for allowing smoking inside as well.

Place is overpriced, beer is okay but not great, food is mamahuhu. For a german like me, there are better options like Schindler's, Schillers and Paulaner (on the expensive side). I am german and I can tell you this dows not look like a German pub. More like an old-style Bavarian one. We Germans mostly go to some more modern places nowadays.

I can't see myself going to Drei Kronen for anything other than their beer. I'll hand them that, they do a good stein but as they should as the whole interior is dedicated to the greatness of German brew. Love the fact that they do beer well but at what point does it turn into a bit of a Disneyland when all the Chinese wait staff are in lederhosen looking bored and awkward. Didn't try the food or stick around for the 'foreign' band but feel if I were to head back it would have to be for the lederhosen... I mean beer. Too bad you cant get their beer outside of their venue as it's a bit too kitsch to spend some serious amount of drinking time in.

only tried one kind of their beer, can't remember the name, it has deep brown color and a rich malty flavor. The decor and costume are impressive, but in different ways, the wooden staircase divided the whole space into a multi-storied space, looks like a maze. The traditional costumes look simple and rural. Their main course is served in big portion, one course is enough for 2 light eaters.

I guess I had the same experience like eurotrash. After eating there and drinking beer I had the runs for the whole week. I first thought its because of the beer or the hole in the pocket after paying the beer...but might have been the food...

For a place that claims over 700 years of beer brewing tradition one would have to start with a review of the Brauhaus' Bavarian beer. 3 varieties are on offer including a pale lager, a dark and a wheat beer. I had the lager and my companion had the dark. Both were on the sweet side, easy to drink with a rather mild overall taste. Pleasant tasting but not particulary unique. The happy hour is not half price but rather 2 for 1 so be ready to park yourself at a table from 5 to 7 and indulge.

The interior is very nicely done with the bar at the center and two large brewing tanks behind in plain view. The space has an open ceiling and you can see all the way up to the fourth floor with the second and third floors simply ringing the space around the open middle.

The menu includes a healthy choice of German dishes to choose from at somewhat high prices although once the food comes and you see how large the portions are you'll feel a bit better about the value for the money. The food was very tasty and the service was attentive and friendly.  This place just opened and at the moment it feels rather empty but if others' experience matches ours I expect a fuller crowd next time we go back.
