East Shore Live Jazz Cafe 东岸咖啡

Opened in July '06 by legendary jazzman Liu Yuan - ex-manager of CD Jazz Cafe and Cui Jian's sax player since '84 - East Shore is a musician's jazz club: it's comfortable, authentic and fully devoted to music - at least judging by the number of hepcats who congregate here. The club hosts live bands from Thu-Sun, including Liu Yuan's own quartet which jams till the wee hours. Expect proficient musicians, standard-priced drinks and (for now) no cover charge.

Best place to enjoy Jazz

Review of East Shore Live Jazz Cafe

Over rated? Personal view, after all I only been there for one or two musicians.
Moreno Donadel - splendid pianist, probably the best one in Beijing? Well, I don't know others anyway.. :) He still performs there every Sunday.
Nathaniel Gao - great saxophone player, very young but talented. Last time in summer he said he's there on each Thursday, not sure now.
Those two also have handsome appearance so kinda popular to girls. haha.

East Shore is a cozy bar and somewhat unique in Houhai, quiet mostly. It's a good place for those who really enjoy music. If you like talking loud, better not go; if you search for fun with opposite sex, not a good choice either, coz people mostly go there with friends, and those who's alone may be just a fan of the artist. ;)
