La Pizza

A large brick oven is the focal point of this jolly pizzeria, where a comically rotund Italian chef bakes 12-inch pizzas with an authentic Neapolitan crust and yummy toppings. In the newer location at 3.3 Mall, he can be found striding between tables, chatting with customers like they’re old friends. Selections include a range of pizzas like the “Diavola” topped with shredded pepperoni, as well as salads, pasta, appetizers and draft beer. Voted "Outstanding Italian (Affordable)" in the Beijinger's 2011 Restaurant Awards.

Another average Beijing pizza joint serving overpriced food to unkowning locals and expats not knowing where else to go. 90 Kuai for a vegetable pizza sitting on plastic chairs in an overcrowed loud restaurant; I dont why this place was packed, maybe because the other options in Solana are worse, no need to go there as the food is not better then at the other pizza places in the city, especially Annies and the copy cat Alio Olio, but you pay half and the sourounding are better.

Best pizza

I tried a lot of pizzas in France, Italia, America and China.
La Pizza is one of the best pizza that I ate.
My favorite is the Calzone with riccotta and tomatoes with a bit of basilic, so tasty!
Margarita is also very good.

When i compare with others pizzerias, it's the quality of the products, it's really fresh.

The only problem is during the week-end, there is no free water!

As depressing as a seven day working week

Wanted to grab a light bight after being dragged round Solana so decided to visit here and split a pizza.

Didn't have the energy to trawl through the over elaborate menu which seems to have been designed by an 8 yr old discovering the MS word font options for the first time.

The interior is pretty small, furniture is cheap and tacky, boxes of stock are stacked in the corner, badly lit. We're talking proper British seaside resort caf here circa the invention of formica.

Ordered a Margarita and when it came (at the second attempt) first visual impressions were good. However things deteriorated rapidly.A crust that managed to be both burnt and soggy, not covered in a rich, eye tingling tomato sauce as I'd imagined, but with bland tasteless passatta.

Seeing as all my 'authentic Italian' eating experiences seem to end in tears I really should have know better. The pasta option they serve at the Brazilian BBQ round the corner is better than this place and I wouldn't feed that to any future dog I might own.

Delicious Food

After going to the branch beside 3.3 mall we were pleasantly surprised.

The seemingly high prices had kept us away before (average 70 - 90 rmb for small pizza, about 170 rmb for large)
This is steep compared to other places, that said the large is very big, easily enough for 2, maybe 3.

That said the food itself is worth the prices, we had a ''meat platter'' with freshly sliced salami and prostituto ham with nice crusty bread and butter which tasted great.

The pizza base was unlike anything else in Beijing, it was thin and crispy but the crusts were bigger, more doughy and filled with air. We had a 'spicy Margarita' which was good, but I'm sure other toppings would taste even better.

The only downside where the stuff (I bet your shocked to hear this!!!) Although they were quite polite, quick to respond to us, and didn't mess up the order etc, when we asked them some questions about the deserts (all names in Italian) they had no idea. So I tried a simple ''hao chi ma?'' But still she was baffled as none of the staff had apparently ever tasted the deserts, or judging by some of their expressions never even looked at them! I'm guessing its the same story with all the food there. A bit of product knowledge wouldn't go amiss!

The only authentic Pizza in Beijing

Went here last weekend. Solana location. The pizza was great. Exactly what you would get in Naples or Milan or anywhere in Italy. The pasta was so-so, I tried the frutti di mare pasta and it was good ingredients but the tomato sauce was a bit dandan.
The pizza was the high light of the dinner. I had a capricciosa which is always a good choice. Great ingredients, awesome dough and perfect execution. All the basil, olive oil, tomato and topping flavors really stuck out as well as blended together.
When we got the check they had to switch the roll in the fapiao machine which made us wait a couple of minutes. But the south italian owners gave us a couple of Limoncellis on the house. Just the fact that they have Limoncello as a digestivo is a mark of a great italian restaurant in Beijing. Ill come back when i feel like spending 90 kuai for a pizza again. Which is also the only bad thing. But quality costs.

Bad service and nothing special food

We went for dinner. We ordered an appetizer, pasta, and pizza. First of all the service was bad even by Chinese standards. The pizza tasted okay but the crust was very soggy. The pasta was actually undercooked and hard, not al dente. The worst was the grilled seafood plate. When it came it was two squid, two burnt shrimp, and four mini rock hard baby octopus. There was no seasoning to the dish and it tasted like burnt rubber. When we told the manager he just took the plate away. He didn't give us a new dish and they still charged us the $98 rmb for the dish. We won't be returning.

Pumpkin and ricotta.

Just one of the best pizzas in town.
My favourite, pumpkin and ricotta. Not always consistant but still the one using good stuff to make pizza.
Sometimes, a bit soggy, maybe the pizza needs to be more crispy.
Decoration very very simple, i think is just a selling point for Sanlitun.Funny staff uniform.
Will be back.

Won't be returning

I went here on Sunday afternoon in Solana. Group of 2. We ordered spagetti, these little bread puff things and a pizza. The bread puffs came back with raw dough, so we had to send them back. They came back still partially cooked. The pizza was also soggy and partially uncooked. The spagetti was passable but the rest just was not up to standard, especially for the price (over RMB200 for two entrees, an appetizer and no drinks). I was told that this place can be good but the product is not consistent. I won't be returning.

Very rude Manager won't go back again

After hearing good things about this place, I went to give it a try. A mistake i won't make again.

The manager of this place was rude and aggressive, after asking around it appears this insn't a one off and i've heard worse stories.

If you want a pizza go to the tree, I've been going there for 8 years and haven't got a bad word to say about the place.

Your in a service industry and Mud sticks La Pizza

mediocre food, terrible service.

I've been here twice. Once for lunch by myself and once for dinner with my wife. At lunch there were 2 other customers in the place. It took over 20 minutes for my plate of pasta to arrive. I watched as the 2 other customers had to repeatedly ask for their bill. The same happened for me, it was a good 10 minutes and I had to ask twice for it. I really don't know what the deal was. For the price, I wasn't impressed with the pasta. Also, there were people working, installing TVs in the restaurant. Their trash and cardboard boxes were all over the place. The restaurant employees were somewhat distracted by this, but come on, get it together.

At dinner, my wife and I shared a mediocre pizza. They were out of the first pizza we ordered, the waitress had to come back to tell us, rather than knowing on the spot when we ordered. I suppose the good thing is that if they're running out of ingredients, it's at least fresh. The pizza we did get had almost no cheese and sauce. My wife ordered a "grilled vegetables" salad. Translation ~ a green salad topped with some pieces of grilled zucchini. She's allergic to zucchini (I know, not the restaurant's fault, but a more descriptive menu would be helpful). It came long after the pizza, and only because we asked a second time for it.

I was at the Italian embassy the other morning and asked them where I should go to get something to eat.
They recommended La Pizza. It's a new place so I didn't know where it was, but it was easy to find.

Once I got there and tried the pizza, I realized how this recommended by the Italians themselves. It is really fabulous. No imitation or frozen pizza. It's authentic and fresh.

LA Pizza or La Pizza?

Review of La Pizza

Funny, I thought it was L.A. Pizza, not La Pizza.
Anyway, this is a place that makes authentic pizzas with fresh ingredients. This is not Pizza Hut, everything tastes the same style pizza, so you should look and choose your toppings carefully. Service is so so and the location (Solana) is not great, but if you are in the area it is worth it to check it out. I have not been to the 3-3 location yet. I will certainly go more often with the more convenient location.

Wonderful pizza, very authentic.

I have visited the Sanlitun location a few times and always enjoyed the food here. The pizzas are made quickly and do not feel artificial or processed in any way, the ingredients are fresh and there is never any fuss, delay or stress when dining here. The wines, at RMB 90 a bottle, are perfectly acceptable and add to the feeling of value. The Napoli specialities are unique, and the genuine Italian staff add the right authenticity.

Highly recommended.

I went there with a friend for dinner last week.

Service was nondescript when I was their third customer in sight. It got worse when the waiting staff poured my beer all over the table cloth (which was nice) without so much as an apology. (I don't blame the poor Chinese waitress, the European head staff there would not crack a smile even if you gave her a platinum credit card.) When the marinara pizza (which we expected for to have shrimps, OK, we were actually expecting prawns and may be some cheap fish and cuttlefish/squid bits, we found no cheese and about three cloves of garlic accompanied by six miserable bits of anchovies with tomato paste), we just had to look at each other apologetically for choosing the sorry spot for dinner. The pizza base was good but the topping was more miserable than the Oliver Twist legend.

Looking at the salad selection, the first salad selection was described as "mixed vegetable". Thank you, I thought salad meant something else. We ordered the more expensive stuff which below my expectations came in a 6-inch bowl. The rockets were fresh and bitter and good, but nothing else in the salad worked for us, especially the size. Cheese? What cheese? Oh, there's five or six slivers there!

Do yourself a favour if you're thinking of having dinner there. Walk south to The Village 100 metres away, take the escalators to the third floor where they have real food and service.

Two of us had a snack there for 186 RMB. A wood-fired oven shouldn't give you license for bad service and over-priced food.

great wine

Went today for a bottle of wine-they had a special of Pascule wine for 99 rmb. The white wine we had was crisp and refreshing and more than worth the price. Even gave us complimentary antipasta dish of fried balls of olive and potato which were really good

The real deal

(Solana location)
Are you tired of the crappy yank-style pizzas (yeah Chicago AND NY, it's ALL crap)they sell all over the city? You might want to go there and have a try. This is the closest to real pizza crust that you will find in Beijing. The tomatoes they use are probably imported too, the cheese is fresh and tasty, anything with chocolate reminds me of lazy sundays spent eating pastry at my grandma's. So yeah, it's a bit expansive (12 inch pizza around 100), but I don't mind paying the extra 20 or 30 kuai for something that almost tastes like authentic italian. The service was ok.

New place but should improve

I like to talk to the italian guy who makes the pizza and the lady manager is warm hearted.
The pizzas still are not as best as the Tree.
But give them a little time and they should do better.
The cheese quality and other ingredients is better here.

They need to get better at the pizza
