Le Little Saigon 西贡在巴黎

The lime green walls and whirring fans of this Sino-French bistro seem tropically Southeast Asian, while the fittings and ambiance are classically Parisian. The twin influence is reflected throughout the menu, which offers both French and Vietnamese mains in addition to staples like beef pho. Other standouts include beef bourguignon, made from tender chunks of beef stewed in a flavorsome red wine sauce, as well as pork and shrimp pancakes, and Vietnamese salad rolls flavored with mint and a sweet chili dip that are best enjoyed on the rooftop terrace overlooking the Gulou area … perhaps with a glass of sparkling wine. Weekday set lunch (RMB 59/69) from 11.30am-2pm. Voted "Outstanding Vietnamese" in the Beijinger's 2011 Restaurant Awards.

Very Pleasant

We visited this restaurant last night, Friday night and just before spring festival the streets were very quite but the restaurant had a nice cosy feeling, not too busy, no waiting for anything. The decor was very nice and clean and the service was excellent, very polite and attentive without being annoying.
The menu was lovely, decorated with old black and white photos of the owners family, I thought it was a very nice touch. And the food was very nice, a big selection on offer. We had a grilled beef salad (30+ RMB), vegetable spring rolls (30+ RMB) and a delicious "Le little saigon beef stew" (40-50RMB) which comes with a bowl of rice. We had a glass of red (30-40RMB) with the meal which was very nice. There were a few desserts available, including a plate of cheeses (75RMB) which I didn't try. Apple tart wasn't great but the rice pudding was delicious. Add two coffees and the whole meal (two starters, one main, two desserts, two glasses wine, two coffees) came to just over 300RMB.
I will definitely go again, probably skip on dessert next time. One warning, portions were a little on the small side, so a main probably wont fill most people. One thing that would be nice, as it is partly a French restaurant, would be to have some French bread served with the meal.

All in all, very nice dining experience.

Expensive, not good and "bobo". Not recommended

I am french and live in the Viet neightborood of Paris so I was quite eager to try "real" Vietnamese food and especially Pho Dac Biet.

I was painfully disapointed.

The setting is realy nice. Service is really average. But personnaly I don't care about the overexposed picture of the owner's familly on the menu. I came for food and was not much impressed.

The coffe was instant and despite and impressive saigon-like system lacked flavor -25 koueis for this?-

The Pho was small, with a tasteless broth, a ridiculous amount of soy and 2 -yes two- basil leaves -something like 50 koueis for this? The chainrestaurant in Raffle city offer a WAY better pho and he is only 22 rmb-

The nems (fried springroll) where fresh and good but 2 -yeah two- pieces of them the size of my thumb look particulary greedy, especially for a whooping 45plus koueis.

Of course to had insult to mediocre food, the bill came with an extra 30something fruit juice we never ordered. And I really felt It was the usual "we try to rip you off" scam in Beijing as the restaurant was basically empty.

I had to show excuse to the personn I invited there, I was quite ashamed of me. Maybe there couscous is good, but I doubt so.

In French we call this kind of establishment "Bobo", expensive overlingly pretentious and obsessive on irrelavant details but really bad on the essence -food-. The only personns I would suggest coming are french guys on a date with dull girls with no taste.

A real disapointment. BAsically the whole SE asian food scene in Beijing is a REAL disapointment.

Great unParisean service

Just had a pleasant Vietnamese lunch here. The staff were amazingly patient about having our baby and dog here indoors away from the sweltering heat. One of the waitresses even played with our little girl to give us a short respite to finish our food. The spring rolls were fresh and we enjoyed a delicious pho. Lunch was quite reasonable at RMB100 each with 2 beers.

We'll be back again to chill in their French bistro settings to try their brunch.

Love the decor and their rooftop patio seating. Really great views of well, I don't know what it is, but some cool ancient structure in the distance.

I'd recommend the afternoon tea set. RMB 38 which comes with a choice of hot beverage and 3 cakes (chocolate, coconut pudding, and apple pie) which are simply delectable, especially the chocolate cake.

Will definitely, definitely be back!

Went to the place for about 3-4 times. I enjoy the effort made on the decoration.

Nice simple menu, even though you can find a lot of delicacies there.

I was just disappointed on my last visit that because the French chef went for a trip back home, most of the French dished were not available. I wish I was told before as I had brought Chinese people with me.

Warm atmosphere

Had the typical spring rolls, which were very good and came with dipping sauce, lettuce, mint and coriander. Ordered two curries, one which tasted like airline food and the other was a bit watery, but in fairness I don't think Vietnamese food is known for its curries in the same way as Thai. We got a freebie shot of creamy vegetable soup which was thick and flavourful. The tart tatin was also simple, but nice. I would like to try more of the standard Vietnamese dishes like pho and nem and also give the French side of the menu a go. Good wine list, didn't try the coffee, but looked and smelled good. Atmosphere was very warm and welcoming (including a huge table of about 10 boisterous Viets) and decoration very a pleasant aspect of the dining experience. Would definitely come back again, especially to experience the roof terrace in summer and its proximity to Hou Hai is a definite plus. Good for a date or dinner with friends.

Actually it's 4 stars but since it has been rated 3 before I bring it to the average of 4 with a 5 Wink)
Food is excellent, design is good. Wine list a bit short and the one we ordered was not available. Overall a very cozy place even for a coffee in the afternoon.
BUT: they have to fix the door since it is not closing poreperly and cold wind is coming in all the time..

warm place to idle away an evening

I finally went to Little Saigon last Friday night after hearing tell of it for some time. I was worried that I was visiting at the wrong time of year, cause most of the recommendations mentioned how nice the rooftop terrace was - which seemed a bit irrelevant in late Autumn. I was delighted to discover a warm bistro like space, with comfortable banquettes, specials written up on the mirrors and a great selection of wine and aperitifs. Amazed to find trad french aperos like Dubonnet and three different kirs - these latter were excellent. We ordered from both the Vietnamese and the French side of the menu, and found that, contrary to what you might expect, it was the French side of the menu that won out - delicious, un-pretentious comfort food. Recommended, esp if you keep to the French side of the menu.
