Matsuko 松子
Serving up one of Beijing's best known buffets since 1992, this chain of Japanese restaurant feeds hungry white collar types with its bountiful spread of sushi, sashimi, noodles and more. The daily lunch buffet (RMB 98, Mon-Fri 11.30am-2pm, RMB 108 Sat-Sun 11am-2.30pm) features over 60 kinds of dishes, ranging from eel with teriyaki sauce and tempura shrimp to sushi rolls and desserts. Children under 110 cm eat for free. Be forewarned that the different branches charge different prices for the buffet. Voted "Outstanding Japanese" in the Beijinger's 2011 Reader Restaurant Awards.

The three most important words in Beijing dining are location,location.location,this restaurant maganes to pack in rotary sushi belt and a tepanyaki grill and serve all the standards from sushi and sashimi noodles.

Tuanjiehu Branch
I love their rolls and their desserts!!! I havent been to this place for a long time but from what I remember I got good food in a very reasonable price. The place is not too-overcrowded and now can be easily reached by Hujialou subway. This is the place I go if I crave for Japanese food.

I've been to their Tuanjiehu restaurant many times over the last 3 years. I think they have some good basic sushi, I'm not really into those fancy sushi rolls. Though I think quality of some dishes became less, overall they still serve good food. Good service and atmosphere.

Review of Matsuko
The Lufthansa/21st Century Hotel branch of this Japanese buffet joint is good but not great. Nice dining atmosphere and reasonably good service in terms of clearing your empty plates and keeping the buffet table stocked, but it's a big turnoff to have to fight the masses who act as if its a personal affront to their manhood unless they make off with a mountain of food. Also, there's just too many mediocre items in there driving the average overall feeling of quality down. Having said that, choose carefully and you'll find plenty to eat, and you can't argue with the >100 price for the whole shebang.

I believe the buffet in the afternoon is a better choice. 78/88 yuan per person. I have been there in the evening. The waitress looked very tired and cold. The sea food is soso, my friend didn't satisfied with them. I like Japanese food ,but after that dinner i felt sick...

Everything is good there. (I've only been to the one next to Tuanjiehu on the 3rd ring road.)
I tried some other restaurants after I discovered that Matsuko was not Japanese-owned but keep coming back after being disappointed elsewhere.
Like the previous poster wrote: their salmon sashimi is DEEELICIOUS.

Very good Japanese restaurant.
Fish tastes fresh, roast eel and fried tenpura are recommened.. For some people roast eel may be a bit too strong though.
Nevertheless, it's a place i'd like to go with friends anytime and salmon sashimi would be always ordered.

Review of Matsuko
Both thumbs up for Matsuko (Songzi in Chinese), east 3rd ring road. Food is fresh and delicious and price reasonable (other places I like for same reason are Dingtaifeng, Gisa, and Hong Kong Meishicheng). Buffet at Matsuko left me totally satisfied. Ambiance is not very stylish but that's not a problem.
