Noodle Loft 面酷

Texture is everything when it comes to noodles, and Noodle Loft doesn’t disappoint. The ritzy environment, beautifully presented dishes and delicious beverage concoctions make this an excellent introduction to Shanxi food. Try the youmian kaolaolao, a steamer basket full of shotgun shell-shaped noodles and mao erduo (little bits of pasta shaped like cats ears that are stir-fried with chopped veggies and meat, a Shanxi specialty).

Its distinctly average. Yes they do make a bit of a show out of making them, but the food wasnt that good. I would prefer going to my local chuan'r man....

if you're in the mood for noodles, these are the best

great noodles. like the 'cats ear' noodles. some of the dishes are a bit oily but in general food is great.

A nice place for Noodle lovers!

If you are a fan of Noodle, then I strongly recommend you to experience the Loft. I went there with a friend who was supposed to be a Noodle specialist, then he was also inspired by the taste and variety. I'll go there again!

If you are noodle lover, it is a must go place

I went there accidentally, but i must say that it is a noodle playground:)

You can see whole process of production of noodle on the first floor, but if you prefer a quite place, you can go upstairs, they have reserved room on the second floor. The set up of the dishes are fairly nice, the noodles are well cooked.....well, i guess i will go there again when i m passing by.

Pleasant place!

My first experience at the Loft backs 4 years ago. My beloved teacher invited me to the restaurant and we enjoyed the food and atmosphere for several hours! Then I became a fan of Noodle Loft! If you need to eat out for lunch everyday and there is Loft near your office, then I envy you:-)

very good

The Hepingli branch of Noodle Loft as moved to Wangjing.
Its in the Fairmont Building - Fu Mao Da Sha?
GuanshunBei Da Jie #33. Phone is 8472-4700

New venue is on the second floor, you can see it from the street. Its really lovely - prices still reasonable for quality, quantity and environment. Great place to bring visitors - especially ones with kids.

So the reviewers that say that the Noodle Loft is in a different place from where the description states are 100% absolutely dead WRONG. Sadly we listened to them and ended up walking around in the dark for an hour before we figured it out. Don't listen to them! Either they don't know what they are talking about or they don't go often enough to realize the place has moved. All that side, the place was terrific. The service was wonderful, the food was tasty, the atmosphere was classy yet highly entertaining and the value was the best surprise of all. A 22 meter long noodle with yummy sauce for 12 Yuan, who can beat that?!? Just go where the map tells you to go! On a side note the other location at 3 Heping Xijie appears to have shutdown.

Not bad... but not Soho New Town

Have been to this place a few times. It isn't bad - its fun to sit on the first floor and watch the cooks prepare all of the different noodles. The skill that goes into pulling, kneading, twisting, and then cutting the dough (via scissors, chopsticks, razor, hand, etc) is fascinating. Dinner and a show.

The food itself is fine. The noodles actually are one of the less impressive things on the menu... last night had the shrimp and corn and it was excellent, as are some of the shanxi vegetable dishes.

Lastly, I would echo the sentiment that this place isn't exactly "South of SoHo New Town." While that's technically correct, its kinda like saying Tiananmen Square is West of Wangfujing. Anyone going to Soho New Town and then walking south will have a good 15 minute walk ahead of them before they run into Noodle Loft.

P.S. This restaurant is one featured by Anthony Bourdain on his US No Reservations TV show, so it seems to be well-frequented by foreigners and tourists...

Always a solid choice for noodles

I really like this place. The decor is dark and modern, the service is prompt and the noodles are really good. They make all their noodles right in front of you and the best one is the knife cut variant. I always get them with beef, but you can also order the egg/tomato, vinegar, fried pork sauce or fried pork pieces to go with your noodles. Any of the simple preparations (knife cut, longevity, cat ear) are just 12 kuai a piece--its such a great deal! A couple of my friends have ordered the beef noodle soup (20-something kuai) and they were pretty impressed. The rest of the food is not bad, but alittle oily. I've have the sweet and sour meat balls (savory-yummy), sauteed cabbage with vermicelli (oily) and the lamb and greem onions (standard). One thing I would recommend against, what everyone else says to get, is the shotgun shell shaped noodles. They are pretty in the steamer, but bland...and they are served with tomato/egg sauce, vinegar and beef stock on the side. Its really not that impressive. Besides that slight hiccup, plus the oil factor in the fried dishes, I give this place 4 stars, but I think its one of the best noodle joints in Beijing.

We were at the Xidawang branch yesterday, near New Soho. First, the restaurant name only says "Loft" outside the building, not "Noodle Loft" (at least in Roman characters) - so don't mistake it for a furniture shop or something! Second, we had a hard time figuring out what to order, and in the end, we weren't too excited about what we had. The menu is a little difficult to navigate. Third, if your kids are at all sensitive to sound, I would stay on the second floor. My 2-year-old did not like the sharp dough-slapping snap at all! It may be better to dine upstairs and come down to briefly watch the noodle making.

I doubt we would ever make a special trip to NL again, but if we were in the area, we may still hit it.

Love the place.

However, the address listed above for the CBD location is incorrect. it is:

20 Xidawang Lu (and is south of Soho New Town by about 1km)
