One East 东方路一号

From the name down to the framed images of the Big Apple hanging on the walls and the lounge jazz which the house band tinkle out in the evenings, One East on Third screams New York City. The food, prepared by new Head Chef Christian Bruhns, is equally representative of The Big Apple, with a focus on American-style steaks, burgers and Little Italy-inspired pasta dishes. This is essentially homey American cuisine with extra polish, encapsulated by what one of Beijing’s priciest burgers (RMB 200), a hunk of wagyu beef topped with a sliver of foie gras, served in a golden toasted bun and accompanied by three relishes. Set lunches are RMB 100 for two courses or RMB 130 for three. 15% service charge.

Ridiculously Expensive Burgers

Review of One East

Yeah, you get a lot of options, as the previous reviewer mentioned. But overall quality of the ingredients, bread and meat is average, maybe slightly better.

For as much as 200RMB per burger, I was expecting to be a lot more impressed. You can get a great steak at SALT or Morel's for that much. And if you've got to have a burger, try Fatburger; comparable quality but a lot cheaper.

If they cut the prices in half, I'd give them a glowing review. But with what they're charging, you're just not getting good value at all.

This is a great concept - choose your bread, meat and toppings (everything from cranberries to goats cheese to crispy onion strings), even what fries you want, and get it served on a stars 'n' stripes plate. It's possible to spend above RMB 200 on your creation if you go hog-wild, but the results, for the die-hard burger fan with money to burn, shouldn't disappoint.
