Watered down?
We went today for dinner and beers. Happily surprised with the selection of beers as well as with the atmosphere. Being able to order from Ganges was an absolute plus. The only problem (other than the cold, since its not very well isolated) was when the beers came to the table. Both Kelkeny beers seemed to be VERY watered down. I would probably go back again, but when the weather is better and I will stick to local cheap beers. 3 stars because I want to think this is not the usual stuff.

Good
Good service, we had a server who didn't understand anything of what we were saying and said "meiyou" for every beer that we asked...
We started to be upset when suddenly the foreign boss immediately came to take care of us !
Nevertheless not a 5 stars because prices are unfortunately really high.

Very authentic Irish bar
Paddy O'Sheas is the most genuine and best Irish bar in Beijing. You always get a perfect pint, service is good and the quiz nights are great craic. For any major sporting event this is the place to watch it.

I am SEETHING sort of......
I've always liked Paddys, mainly because it's the only placed guaranteed to have a good atmosphere when showing the football or the rugby.
Because of this however it can tend to be frequented by non drinking backpacking types who love blocking access to the bar during big events. I'm not pointing any fingers here *coughfrenchpeople* but you know who you are.
The food is varied, usually depending on how drunk you are it either has the best, or the worst burger in town. For any expats homesick for a full English AVOID, it is a cruel joke. Right down from the American style bacon to the 8 ( yes I counted) baked beans you receive for your 70rmb.
The quiz is good, don't know what people are complaining about. Though as with most quizzes it is full of ten person team bespectacled bookworm types refusing to drink the round of shots they have just won.
Sadly there are no real alternatives to this place and the captive audience seems to bring out the worst in Craicitalism at times, but hey, would it be so popular if it was so bad?
Wait staff and barmen are excellent though it has to be said, always spot a thirsty face in the crowd and remember your previous order. Don't mind trawling the Internet to find you an obscure livevsports stream either.

Knew in advance, but still disappointing
Went to Paddy's last night for the Pub Quiz, and walked away quite disappointed afterwards.
I had been to the quiz once last year, and honestly thought it wasn't very good. But after it got an 'Outstanding' award for Best Pub Quiz, I thought I'd give it another go.
Unfortunately, nothing seems to have changed in the last 6 months. From a F&B point of view, IMHO, the bar seems lacking, with a limited selection of food, and an even greater limitation of non-alcoholic beverages. My DC was served chilled, however, my veggie burger was somewhat sloppily put together, and the French fries lacked any real taste.
Staff seemed quite attentive, but even during the quite evening, it took sometime to get served, or even get a menu.
As for the actual quiz itself, I have to admit I am very surprised it won an award, while others like Stumble Inn, took home nothing. Neither the quiz master, nor the competing teams, seemed to really take an interest in what was going on, and there seemed to be a real lack of anything resembling real organisation.
Maybe I'm just too used to the way things work at Stumble, and I'm sure there are people who love it, but for me, it's not really a place I'd want to go to again.

Oh this is the first comment I wrote abt a bar
Im local. I went to this bar since 2010 world cup. Before that, I noticed the bar in that area for quite longtime but we never wanted to have a visit. In 2010 summer we thought to change our hunting places, we are sports fan btw, so we went to this bar, and found out it's a pretty laid back place with good location and smily waiters and waitress. Foods are bad of course, except beers, not much other drink choices also. Still for their easy atmosphere, we come back to the bar once in a while.
This summer, what happened to their old waiters and waitress? we only found one guy familiar in the bar, all others are replaced by SOME UGLY, ANGRY AND SLOW girls from countryside of China we guessed. They have no idea for the service at all I think. Also, we felt their bar is under no administration or what, things are weird in there. Maybe this is why now they attract many ppl I thought I never should see in Beijing?
I will give up this bar for sure if they still use those "unbelievable" waitress and waiters. They really made my good nights in Beijing bars are uneasy.

Good Irish Bar
I go here quite often, especially for sporting events. There's plenty big screens, the waiting staff are (usually) efficient and effective, the drinks range is spot on - Guinness, Stella, Tsingtao, all the usual spirits. Food is pretty good in your typical pubgrub way - burgers etc, though there's some variability in quality (I've had onion rings which looked like they'd been fried in month-old fat), while the curries are decent (though again, I once ordered one type of curry and got another - "Hey, what does it matter?", I imagine they said). All the same, the atmosphere is good, there's a good mix of Chinese and laowai, the drinks are good quality (if expensive). It's probably as close to a British bar as you might find in Beijing.

Great Bar..
What a wonderful place.. All the staff are so friendly and even on St.Patrick's Day when they were the busiest bar I have ever seen in Beijing they managed to get me and my friends our drinks and still were smiling. The two boys at the bar inside the door were so lovely. A truly magical experience and the Guinness was lovely. If you haven't been yet you should go..

Paddy's Really Gone Downhill !
I have finally given up on Paddy O'Shea's after a string of disappointments.
Last time I went, I ordered Steak & Guinness Pie. Used to really enjoy this dish, but this time the meat was like rock. I complained, only to be told it was because they had "new staff" in the kitchen. I was told that if I ordered another dish on the menu except for that one, it would be better. In the meantime, they refused to refund. The previous time I went there, my food didn't arrive for a very long time. When I enquired, it seemed they hadn't even put my order in!
On previous occasions, I asked for Cider that's listed on the menu, and was told it was sold out. When they finally had it on a later visit, it TASTED LIKE BEER! Obviously adulterated in some way. Along with the grudging service and making their staffing problem my problem, I've had it with that place. Go upstairs for the Indian food, by all means. But don't bother downstairs.

Paddys
Good place to hang out with some friends, don't forget to order their "loaded pub chips". Their Quiz-nights used to be fun as well, don't know about now since I haven't been to the Quiz-night for quite a while. Always a good place to go to during some sport events. Friendly crowd in general, ofcourse the place to celebrate St. Patricks day.

Oh, just go!
If you haven't been, you might as well head now. You're out of the loop if you haven't. The ownership and management of this joint make it the most congenial crossroads and watering hole in the whole of China. Get on up and drop in for what makes Ireland proud... good folk, company, and drinks!

Drink Wizard
Great atmosphere and that has to be mostly down to Karl, the manager.
Reading these reviews has been interesting because I thought I was getting special treatment from Karl but it looks like everyone feels the same way.
He recently won Best Bartender in Beijing at the Bar & Club Awards and I promise you that's not because of his flirtini making skills.
It's the free peanuts. And the way he mixes Love Generation seamlessly into sports commentary.

A typical Irish Pub
If you want beer, good food and sport, Paddy O'Shea's is the right place for you. Its a typical Irish pub managed and owed by an Irish. Soccer scarfs and tricots are hanging at the walls a you find several screens showing sports events everywhere in the pub. The stuff behind the bar is really nice and all of them speak a good englisch. The whole atmosphere is perfect to catch a game or just hanging around with friends.

Good place for a friendly drink
Can't comment on the food, but Paddy's is a good place to drink beer and hang out with a friendly, if foreigner-heavy, crowd.
I watched quite a few of the World Cup games here and the atmosphere was always great. It gets pretty crowded and hot when there's a popular game on the screens, but then the wait staff are always circulating so you don't have to fight your way to the bar for a refreshing beverage.
Drink prices are reasonable and Karl the owner is a friendly chap who makes a real effort to make everyone feel welcome.

Great Bar
Paddy's is always good, atmosphere, staff, management, drinks are all consistently excellent.
The food has its ups and downs, though the Indian food is usually good and the Indian style pizzas are a novel idea. 5 stars if the food has more consistency!

Who goes to a bar to eat ?
OK enough already about the food complaints. Let's try to get this right if you want to eat you go to a restaurant - you want to drink you go to a bar. The food at Paddy's is OK -for a bar- very good - if you stick to the Indian food that comes from the restaurant upstairs. The drinking, the selection of your favourite tipple, the fun and the carrying on are fantastic !!!!
Karl and his staff provide a fun place to meet friends, or make new ones, have a good quality drink and have some fun. There are special events like the very popular quiz night on Wednesday, open mike on Tuesday and live music on Fridays. There are plenty of TV's to watch your favourite sport or learn to like a new one. The best thing about Paddy's are the regulars, a great bunch to be with ! Add in a daily happy hour and what more do you want
So if you want to eat go to a restaurant - if you want to go to the best bar in Beijing go to Paddy Shea's.

Food at Paddy's
We have already complained many a times to the waitstaff but with no avail of improvement of food at Paddy's.
Hope the owners get into some action. The Indian boy doing the food for Paddy's stops us from coming more often. We have talked to Karl and he says there is only one kitchen so have to subcontract to the Indian boy.
Before the Indian restaurant began we had a nice setting on 2nd floor. Alas but gone!
Maybe Paddys could easily afford the additional rent of 2nd floor of (hearsay 30,000 rmb/month?) as they can surely earn much more from the food orders of Paddys customers, the money which is now pocketed by the Indian boy and serves pathetic food.
As loyal Paddy's customers we suggest a nice lounge setting on 2nd floor with food directly managed by an Irish. Maybe Karl is overworked at the bar where he does a great job! the investors could get some other professional who`s just into making Irish food to Paddy's customers.
I hope the owners are listening and get into action before too late.

Consistantly good
Paddy's is consistantly a good place to meet up, enjoy a beer, catch a game and have a decent meal. The management is keen to keep the place clean and interesting with events, pub quiz, bands. Always good - rare in Beijing.

Stop Press: Ale House In Not-really-a-restaurant Shocker!
Plenty of people have been passing comment on the (apparent) decline of the food at Paddy O'Shea's. As much as they are entitled to express their opinion they seem to have been under the misapprehension that you can expect to find good food in an Irish bar. The food here isn't going to win any awards but it's grand enough when you need something to soak up your belly full of ale. Nothing more, nothing less.
If Mr O'Shea wants to win back hearts and minds then he should invest in importing some crisps.
