Stop Press: Ale House In Not-really-a-restaurant Shocker!
Plenty of people have been passing comment on the (apparent) decline of the food at Paddy O'Shea's. As much as they are entitled to express their opinion they seem to have been under the misapprehension that you can expect to find good food in an Irish bar. The food here isn't going to win any awards but it's grand enough when you need something to soak up your belly full of ale. Nothing more, nothing less.
If Mr O'Shea wants to win back hearts and minds then he should invest in importing some crisps.
We left Paddy`s 1 month ago
Agree with the reviewer about the bar food going downhill.
Our group used to meet up @paddys once a month. We keep switching places for change and since last couple of weeks have not gone here for the bar food being poor quality.
White rabbit ,Souk and Australian bar Ned`s @ Nanluo Guxiang are our new favourite destinations. Souk specially because there is great bar food (I heard there is a new English Chef who himself cooks !)and the lounge and sit downs which we love. Ned`s offer lovely Australian beer.
Pub grub has gone downhill, deter going to Paddys now
The last couple of months have sadly seen a steady deterioration in all the pub grub here. After each meal,I get a feeling the ingredients used now are not the same or fresh as before. The quality of even chips isn't consistent.
Before any change in the dish the waitstaff would happily do it but not anymore, they say the Indian is the boss of the foodstuff now and they find it hard to deal with him.
Irish owned bar, but the pubgrub controlled by an Indian?I know the whole story as the waitstaff told me. They have let out the second floor and hence Paddy O'sheas doesn't get profits from the food stuff so Karl is the least interested in whatever happens on the food front! Karl`s objective is just push the drinks as he doesn't make money from food. Waitstaff say he gets a paltry 10% of the food stuff.
Who's interested in all this story?
Now I deter going to this Irish owned bar with the pubgrub made by an Indian who doesnt know even a bit of what is Irish food. When I was explaining my problem to get fixed to this waitstaff and the Indian guy, after few minutes I concluded this Indian guy doesn't know a anything of our food!
Our group has decided to shift loyalty somewhere else, may be Souk, or Den, or somewhere better.
Karl, to save your bar just take over the Pub grub from the hands of this Indian guy. The Indian guy has a huge attitude and needs lessons on dealing with customers and many lessons on our food but we can't wait untill you teach him.
Unless you take over the pubgrub, we aren't coming back.
Great Sports Bar
If you want a good sports bar to watch the football on a Saturday night then this is your place, lots of screen with great audio and they don't miss a game.
Great atmosphere and good beer reasonably priced. Good selection of drinks, food is nice though a little expensive.
Friendly English speaking staff.
Can get a little crowded but just adds to the enjoyment when watching the big games.
Highly recommend at the weekends, quiz night is fun on wednesdays with a nice bar and pool table upstairs.
Update:
I have now upgraded this review to 5 stars as previously I thought the food was a bit expensive, after too many visits I can honestly say it's not!
For the quality and portions, the food is superb and I almost eat there every visit. I especially recommend the Top Shelf burger at 48 Yuan which an absolute bargain. Also the steak sandwiches is great!. Also if the pub food is not for your liking you can now order from the Indian upstairs, not my cup of tea but many people do.
Keep up the good work Paddy's. Best bar in Beijing by a country mile!
Paddys 1 - 0 Danger's
I went to danger doyles the other night to watch man utd game. Went in for a 1am kick off - the place seemed like it was getting ready to shut up for the night!! they said i could have a beer though - i ordered a bottle of tsingtao - they said 35rmb (thats almost 3.5quid!) - I said see ya later !! made my way around the corner to Paddy O Sheas to find about 30-40 people watching the game with full commentary and it was only 20rmb for a tsingtao. Ended up having a great night and making some new friends too. Will see you all this weekend for more action.

PS, I'm relatively new in Beijing, from England and I love my footy hence my reviews will likely cover the sports scene. I've been reading this page quite a bit lately and the reviews on the bars and resto's around the city seem to be pretty precise. I thought it is time to pen down some of my own reviews to say thanks for the help from all of you guys.
Hmmmmm.
I Liked Paddy's. I agree the sports are a plus but they do miss games. they have a poor customer manner in this regard However the drinks are priced reasonably well and the black stuff is of a good quality. But I must say an Irish Pub selling Indian food is not my preference but it is working for these guys. and good on them.
I Will go back to O'Sheas again and again. I will avoid the live Music as its not the best but for a pint and a match, im in.
Not as Big or well equipped as Doyles (the other Irish bar worth going to) was, but I dont think it was suppossed to be and without Glenn at Doyles it will fall apart so that should not be a problem. Though I knew Glenn when he was making Paddy O'Sheas a pub worth drinking in and no doubt his next venture will be just as nice.
See you on Saturday Mr. O'Shea.
Young Irish chap should work on the difference between loud&Rude and Funny.
All in all though, great experience and a good crowd. see you there.
great fun at this bar
went to this bar last Sunday with some guys from work and by chance they were celebrating their 1 year anniversary. We planned to go for one drink but ended up staying for hours - there was live music all evening - ranging from bag pipes to blues and with some guys and girls dancing on the bar - great fun all together
Irish Bar inBeijing
So they have the beer, the sports and occasionally they have the irish to make this place authentic. Otherwise it is a bit of a dud. Go on weekends.
