Paulaner Brauhaus 普拉那啤酒坊餐厅

This long-running restaurant is one of Beijing’s best choices for authentic, if pricey, Bavarian-style German food (think sausages and sauerkraut). Located next to the Kempinski hotel, the venue features a 429-square-meter beer garden that can seat up to 290 and its own microbrewery that brews Paulaner's own beer (including light and dark wheat beers), with prices ranging from RMB 46 for a small glass to RMB 114 for steins. Schnapps, liquers, digestifs and aperitifs are also served and a la carte items include pork knuckle and hog roast served on traditional cast iron pans, and a range of Bavarian snacks served on wooden boards. Daily lunch specials go for RMB 112 and includes dishes ranging from lamb shanks to Viennese chicken.

Paulaner Brauhaus overrated

This is the largest rip off I have ever been apart of in China. A friend and I visited this place for Saturday diner. I have visited many brew style restaurants and the atmosphere was good but the food was terrible. The people next to us noticed our laughter, about our meal and price, and said they were never coming back again too. We estimated about 5 RMB worth of food on the plate (Spam style meat loaf, cucumber, and potato) sold for a over 100 RMB. Also a Sprite cost 46 RMB, plus of course 15% added tip. The beer is good and worthy! This restaurant is terrible for it's price to quality ratio, don't get ripped off or do so pre warned...in fact, if you want a good laugh, go there for a meal and beer and wait for the bill, or punch line of the joke, to come!

Do not accept free drinks!

The food and drinks are good but overpriced! I am writing this comment to warn other patrons that the manager (on the night that I was there) was misleading and sneaky. IF a manager comes to the table for small talk and check if everything is okay than I am happy, IF the manager comes a second time to joke and ask if we would like to have a Schnapps (but we decline) than I am impressed, IF the manager than insists to bring 3 Schnapps to your table, well thats just good business and very kind:) IF you are then charged for the shots that you never even asked for, at a whopping 88 kuai each, well thats rude. Please be advised that if you, as a manager, are going to announce "well Im going to bring you guys some shots", leading anyone to believe that you are just a nice guy, and then charge us, well then I am going to write a bad review about you. PS. i have no issue to pay for what I have bought, but I have not an inch more patience to be screwed! Just a tip to everyone else, dont drink the free shots :)

Give me beer!

The food is good, however I think the portions are quite small for a German restaurant. If I have lunch in a restaurant in Germany I don't need dinner anymore! On top of that it's quite pricy ofcourse. The beer is great ofcourse, but I will only go there for some special occassion.

A taste of Germany

I have a confession to make. I love meaty German cuisine here. Much of the meat lands on the plate in the form of sausages here. The kartner wurst, extrawrust and salami are all delicious, but my favorite by far is the sulze. This delicious mosaic of ham in spiced gelatin had a rich, savory flavor. I tend to order the schnitzel very often

Good Bavarian but too expensive

They have very authentic Bavarian (not German!) food and environment. Wich means stay away if you don't like meat. Beer is good, service is mostly okay, paying the bill soemtimes takes long.
Only problem is they are by far too expensive and if you can't baoxiao you better go to Schiller's or Schindler's Tankstelle. In case you can baoxiao it's fun watching the huge crowd.
