Saveurs de Corée 韩香馆

Originally located on Nanluogu Xiang, this sophisticated Xiang'er Hutong restaurant is a longstanding tourist favourite. Relax on a a pod-shaped stool and grill up a storm with carefully-sourced, free-range Dalian Wagyu. The portions are on the petite side, but flavors are fine - budget-conscious diners can opt for their lunch offerings. Highlights include their organic bibimbap and their toothsome shin ramyun - chilli-spiced noodle soup with prawn, clam and squid. Winner of "Best Korean" in our 2011 Restaurant Awards.

Super delicious

This place is all around good. Feel good, tastes good, everything good. As a vegetarian I already give a thumbs up to places that present vegetarian and mock meat options in a friendly, laid back way. You don't have to eat it, it doesn't have stupid flowery names, but it's there and you can try it while reading an accessible and reasonable explanation on their approach to sustainable eating. That's really cool and I wish more vegetarian restaurants could take that approach. Good job on that.

That aside, this food RULES. The ingredients are fresh, the flavors are great, and the portions are well sized. I like to go with a group so I can eat as much as possible haha. Drink prices are a little high but the food prices are average for the area. Definitely a chill place, go eat and give them your money so they can stick around.

Enjoy it while you still can

I won't repeat all the news reports about the owner's disagreement with his landlord. Needless to say this is a complicated issue and it's unlikely that the restaurant will continue in its current location.

So, enjoy the amazing Korean flavors on Nanlouguxiang while you still can! I love Korean food, and have eaten here multiple times. Sophisticated, elegant, well-presented and authentic dishes. I'm sensitive to MSG, so the lack of it is appreciated - the recipes more than make up for it with rich and flavorful spices and fresh, quality ingredients.

Go for lunch - many dishes are less expensive then, but just as good! And enjoy this place while it lasts.

Great for meat eaters and vegos eating together!

Located on popular Nanluoguxiang, this is conveniently located if you are visiting Houhai, Beihai, the Drum or Bell Tower or other 'lao Beijing and hutong must see sights'.

This is a great place to go if you've got a mixed group of vegetarians and meateaters.

My parents and I ate here together when they visited Beijing and my dad enjoyed a meat dish, while mum and I had some great soup and noodles, and a rice veggie dish.
The ingredient of each dish is clearly marked, and they even double checked whether or not I wanted the egg (that was supposed to be on the top of my Veggie Rice).

The staff are lovely and can answer any questions if you are unsure. The manager also speaks fluent English and French.

I've eaten here twice so far and both times enjoyed the intimate and somewhat trendy atmosphere.

NO MSG.

Prices a little hard to swallow

I always enjoy the Zen-like, cosy dining room with the central water feature, and the set menus here are a nice treat. But a few weeks back I was on a lunchtime quest for leng mian, so I popped in, scanned the menu and discovered that Saveurs were asking RMB 39 for their take on this straightforward dish. Now, I do appreciate the food, presentation, and the extra attention they give to low oil / no MSG, but we're talking about a bowl of noodles. Cold noodles. So I downed chopsticks and headed to Gulou Dongdajie and a spartan Korean BBQ place I've often passed when walking towards the Drum Tower. It's a bit grungy, and the BBQ chimneys lend it a kind of cold-war industrial chic, but the leng mian were tasty, 6 RMB a bowl, and they did the job.
