Not a good place to go. definately not where the beijing hipsters hang out
first its not a "cool" or "hip" place
second Why would you go out of your way to go here? it is a horrible location and at the end of the year, it is likely you get mugged in such a poor area.
the place is hostile against foreigners. sentiments changed as soon as i explained i grew in the states not beijing. i pull off a very good beijing accent.
there are plenty of other chilll places to go that are not dangerous nor lame
read the comments the owner said. a complete d***. doesnt take any responsibility nor make an effort to appologize. these are the chinese you want to avoid. not a true professional with all the bad chinese traits.
you want to meet hipsters
MaoMao Chong, haze, george's(the girls there on the weekend are like model quality)
you want techno
go to lantern or haze. tango is good too
hip hop
any beijing club got a better set up
rock
alot of good live bands around gulou.
WHY WOULD ANYONE GO HERE? EXPECIALLY IF THEY ARE FOREIGN (AMERICAN CHINESE INCLUDED)

Racist place
Don't go there and spread the word: This place is shockfull of racist a-holes who attack foreigners.
Only come there to burn the place down.

Staff is taking pride in trying to kill foreigners
What a disgusting, racist shithole. If China had any kind of (human) rights and/or the police wasn't totally corrupt, this place would be shut down immediately.
The owners/staff (Joyside) take pride in gang beat their foreign patrons with bricks and beer bottles. Don't support them.
Actaully, The Beijinger should not even list them.

you never know where you set a foot.
Ok, from outside, it may look nice. Situated in a small hutong, not a soul around. Music is not bad, depends on the DJ and drinks are not expensive.
But: bartenders and Dj's are F**kers. People in that bar can't be trusted, they throw a bottle at your face without any warning. Peacefully enjoying the music, you're suddenly disturbed by some guy looking for a fight, with all his friends and they simply want to smash bottles on your head. Meanwhile, bartenders are laughing and Dj's fight too. Foreigners are not welcome there!
You'd better go to a safer place owned by a truthfully friendly boss.

Hidden gem
It's off the beaten path, and this is good. Very legit bar serving Laphroaig, my favorite Scotch whisky, nearly impossible to find in Beijing--the first place I've found it! Middle of the road DJ setup, better than average sound for a club its size (Turbosound) but needs more bass. Maybe this is impossible due to the neighbors, I'm giving the place the benefit of the doubt.
Right now, the place seems to be a hangout for Chinese hipsters, Russians and Ukranians. There's room for more though--more things to do in the Lama Temple neighborhood, and more people! Drinks are reasonably priced, the bartenders are friendly and it's a nice location, tucked away in a hutong.

Hell yes, this place is badass. Great service, the barkeeps are super nice dudes. The music is eclectic and unpredictable - my girlfriend and I went there for a "disco night" and we had a ball. Decently priced drinks and properly served absinthe top the place off. Great place to schmooze with Chinese hipsters and generally have a fantastic evening.
