Susu 苏苏会

Down a deserted alley, just at the point that doubt starts to creep, Susu welcomes you into her twinkling, ever-so-modish folds. A courtyard oasis whose designer dazzle bears the stamp of Apothecary and Modo, it makes a supremely assuring first impression. Run by former Stone Boat owners Amy Li and Jonathan Ansfield - who also opened Thai restaurant Tuk Tuk - Susu has two chefs from Saigon working the kitchen. Lunch sets feature pho, Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches and banh xeo crepes, while at dinner you've got caramelized claypot dishes, Vietnamese stews and "the fabled La Vong Fish."

Totally loved my experience at Susu!
The place was hard to find for first time visitors and there is this public toilet right outside with really really bad smell.... but this is def not Susu's fault, just be careful and don't let it ruin your appetite.
We ordered tons of dishes and each one of them was quite tasty. They have some really distictive dishes, and even for the typical Vietnamese dishes that every other place also has, they do it better.
The crispy tofu salad has wonderful texture and taste and is a healthy choice for all.
Shrimp salad-- Big shrimp and fresh vegetables served in a scallop shell. Again, very refreshing and healthy.
This fish dish I don't remember the name of--- chunks of tender fish pieces in a pot with green vegetables at the bottom. It was soooo good it blew me away.
I am a mojito lover and I order than drink everywhere. The one I had at Susu was definitely one of the best I've ever had!!!!!
Finally, the pudding like dessert with coconut milk and peanut is also amazing.

Very very impressed. I will definitly go back there soon!!

Worth The Trip

Pros:
- Nice atmosphere
- Tasty, fresh food
- Cool location

Cons:
- A bit hard to find
- A little expensive

Overall:
Well worth the visit to Dongsi - a bit hard to find, but a cool location. The decoration is nice - lots of wood and very warm. The food was both tasty and fresh - definitely used fresh ingredients.

I'll be back.

A little tough to find, but well worth the effort

Beautiful space, well appointed, and great service. That alone would be enough to recommend the place, but then there's the food...full disclosure: I'm not a Vietnamese food fan, but I'll make an exception here. In particular, the different fish courses are among some of the best fish I've had in Beijing. A real gem!

Great food, great location, nice staff

Fresh vietnamese rolls, awesome vietnamese coffee. dessert (black gelatin) was a bit so-so. nice friendly staff. nice place, tucked somewhere in the hutongs. nice courtyard, although was feasted by the mosquito the whole night. a little bit expensive (RMB500+ for a hungry couple). but will definitely bring friends/relatives for intimated dinner.
