Suzumei

Suzumei confirms that good things come in small packages. It may only hold a maximum of 40 people, but this corner nook Japanese restaurant and bar in Sanyuanli somehow finds a way to offer a bit of everything; there’s eel over rice (RMB 48), curry udon (RMB 23), yakitori, sashimi and more. The fish is meltingly fresh, purchased and prepared by owner and third-generation sushi chef Omori Toshiyuki, and reasonably priced at RMB 8-32 (for rolls, nigiri and sashimi). Don’t skip out on the other fine offerings just because the sushi is so good; try the grilled skewers (chicken, squid and others from RMB 5-25) and assorted fried treats (chicken wings, shrimp and eggplant for RMB 8-20), all served tapas-style so you can taste a bit of everything. Mon-Sat 5pm-midnight (or until last customer leaves).
