Taverna

Nestled inside the 1949-The Hidden City complex, this rustic-chic Mediterranean taverna offers respite from the noise and bustle of Sanlitun. The menu features tiger prawns in chili garlic butter, salmon steak with tomato-basil salsa, baby back ribs, roast suckling pig, cheesecake, tarts, mousse and more. The extensive wine list is well-matched with the food.

Good brunch

The Sunday brunch here is a steal. Although the selection is limited, the tapas and dessert buffet were well executed and tasty. Regulars may find the fixed choice of 4 mains a bit limiting. We spent a lovely May Day al fresco enjoying a delicious carafe of house wine (at 30rmb, another good bargain) and the roomy interior will be a good refuge as summer approaches

Wonderful Place

As everyone has mentioned it is hidden but wonderful!!! All of the food i have had has been good from the tapas, salads, soups, lobster, steaks, risotto, salmon, all the deserts and the staff is very friendly. The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is because i was really craving fresh juice which was not available!

Def. recommend think it is the perfect lunch place and a nice quiet place for dinner!

Great place if you want to impress a little but still seem casual about it : )

I recently had a lovely evening here with a Spanish friend. We were lured by the special tapas and wine offer (150RMB for 5 tapas and a bottle of red) which he had tried before. The wine was lovely, however the tapas were significantly smaller than those I am used to back home. Nevertheless, they were very tasty!
I recommend you have dinner before or after (either at the restaurant or somewhere else) as the tapas servings are just not enough to fill you up, especially as you will be sharing with another. The wine and tastefully decorated dining area, however, are enough to put a smile on your face.
I will be back to try some other dishes on the menu and hopefully sample some of the delectable looking desserts I saw in the glass cabinet by the door.
I was surprised I hadn't discovered the Hidden City sooner, especially as I am often in the Sanlitun area. Taught me that I ought to look around a little more often as I tend to frequent old favourites.

I believe the Tapas Special is no longer current, but check it out anyway!

When Lobster And Paella Are Not Enough

Since the close of Sugar Bar, La Taverna has inherited its delicious, yummy desserts and freezer(maybe only freezer, they used to steal desserts from sugar bar anyways), which makes me like Taverna even more. So do more and more people it seems. There are more people eating at the restaurant each time I visit. My recent visit even suggests that no table next to the window without reservation...

When lobster and paella are not enough, to attract more customers, to be more down to earth, to be more versatile, La Taverna started to serve BURGER(surprise)! A very cute looking burger with a big round meat ball in the middle and three onion rings might not certainly be the selling point at a restaurant like Taverna, but it certainly makes the place a choice for more people.

Still prefer Lily's home style hearty burger near Shuangjiang subway on line 10.

Located in the "Hidden City" complex behind Pacific Century Place, La Taverna truly is a hidden gem. Great for those looking for a relaxing, yet romantic dinner with a loved one. Or, even for a casual business lunch with a mate who's new in town. Aside from its food (don't leave without trying the roasted pig, which must be reserved 1 day in advance!) and wine selection, you'll find the ambiance hard to match in Beijing. It's a place that, for me personally, resembles a lounge in New York or my favorite seafood restaurant in Darling Harbour of Sydney (except for the lack of the waterfront outside). It's not a large restaurant, so be sure you make a reservation for the evenings and weekends when they are most popular and bound to fill up. I also found that they happen to have a private room (suitable for up to maybe 50 people) on the side that I might keep in mind for our next company party. Definitely worth a stop. 4 Stars.
