hard not to love

Review of Uniqlo

While many Chinese still hold negative feelings toward Japan, if Japan could export more places like Uniqlo to China, they might be able to bridge the divide. It's hard not to love Uniqlo as this place is one of the best spots to get great basics and wardrobe staples at really great prices. The store constantly has sales and offers a lot of great deals. Their Designer Invitation Project is awesome, regularly some of the hottest designers will put together a collection for Uniqlo that you can have for 1/10th the price of the designer's own label. The J+ collection, designed by Jil Sander is also a great reason to keep coming back. The quality is high and the fits are great, so its hard not to browse when you pass by, especially since the store has new clothes on a regular basis.

Love-hate relationship

Uniqlo. I love you. I hate you. Take my money.

Uniqlo, why are your stores always so stiflingly overheated, even in winter? Why are your aisles so uncomfortably small, so that even when I'm the only one there I feel as though there isn't room to turn around? Why are you so awful about returns and exchanges? Why are you so unhelpful about tracking down a branch that offers the size I need? Why does your online store fail to offer the same range of products as your brick-and-mortar shops? Uniqlo, I hate you.

Uniqlo, why are your prices so reasonable? Why are your sales so frequent? Why are your styles so comfortable and your staple items so perfect for my work wardrobe? Why are your branches so numerous and convenient to locate? Why are your staff so helpful? (Unless I want to return something, that is...) Uniqlo, I think I love you.

Colourful, comfy clothing

If you’re after good quality, fun basics, Uniqlo is definitely worth a look. For everything from quirky t-shirts to comfortable yet funky day wear and even basic business wear (plus underwear and sleepwear), Uniqlo is a dependable source of affordable, good looking separates. Men’s wear and baby and children’s clothes are also available for a complete Uniqlo family look. Their already reasonable prices are often even cheaper due to their frequent sales (69rmb for a top, 99 rmb for a cardigan). And look out for their affordable cashmere come winter...

Winter Basics

I don't think I would have survived the BJ winter without this store. Prior to moving to BJ, I had not even as much as seen a snowflake, I essentially had to buy an entire new wardrobe for the harsh winter. This place has affordable pieces and durable quality. I love the heat tech technology thermals and the down jackets, all were at good prices. I'm not as into their summer stuff, but still so grateful for this winter basics go to store.

Trousers, Jeans and Pants

I'm mostly ambivalent about Uniqlo's overall aesthetic (froofy colors, slogan-screaming staff and soul-less techno soundtrack), but I am a fan of their men's pants, slacks and jeans.

Decent cuts and affordable prices (I've bought at least four pairs for RMB 149 each).
