Yunteng Shifu 云腾宾馆食府
Located on the premises of the Yunnan provincial government office in Beijing, Yunteng Shifu is known for its authenticity. Atmosphere is never the paramount concern of government-run restaurants, but they do take their food seriously. The steamed pot chicken (qiguo ji) is absolutely phenomenal here, as are the wild mushrooms and exotic vegetables flown in seasonally from Yunnan. Prized songrong (pine mushrooms) are only available between June and November. All the typical Yunnan dishes are offered, such as crossing-the-bridge noodles, mint salad, fried sheets of goat cheese with red bean paste, and an array of mushroom dishes. Their specialties, usually unavailable in other Beijing restaurants, include deep-fried bee pupae, and deep-fried cactus. Their low-alcohol black rice wine is especially fragrant and sweet.
