Review of Hercules
I had their Philly steak sandwich - what a disappointment! What Philly steak sandwich doesn't have cheese on it!! It was pretty horrible anyhow, don't know if it the cheese would have helped much.
(I suppose it didn't say Philly CHEESE Steak Sandwich - but the default is cheese unless you request for none).
The service was average nothing special. Not particularly attentive - have to wave to get attention.
But the interior is done well, perhaps some of their other sandwiches or offerings are better - otherwise I'd advise you to go elsewhere for decent sandwiches.
Shame - still really would like to have a good Philly cheese steak sandwich

This restaurant always had potential I feel, but has been a big letdown in the end.
I hadn't gone for a while, but decided to give it another try recently. I ordered what was called chicken noodle soup with vegetables. What actually came was pretty hard to believe. It was a yellowish water broth, that contained no chicken whatsoever, I am pretty sure they just threw some chicken powder in a big pot of water, with some cheap elbow macaroni. That was it. A bowl of watery elbow macaroni. It was the kind of thing I would expect to find at a bad steak coffee house in the middle of a small town in Hubei, with oxtail soup and fried black pepper spaghetti.
I gave up on them.
Yes, it's a shame because they've gone through the effort of creating a nice physical space for a restaurant but fail to deliver on it's most important aspect - the food!! Get the food right, the price right and I'd think customers would be forgiving on a lot of external things. I don't mind sitting on a stool in the street if the food is amazing.
Their sandwiches are dry, stingy and unsatisfying.. their only redeeming factors are the atmosphere and the happy hour. As you mentioned the cheese in the cheese steak is almost invisible. The Philly Cheese Steak was the last thing I ordered from Hercules as when I bit into it I noticed it was LAMB not beef.. they finally acknowledged it was lamb after a bit of haggling, but in this day of Chinese food scandals it quite literally left a bad taste in my mouth that they couldn't vouch for the ingredients going into their food. Think about that for a second.
