Still among the best Pizzas in Beijing

First, a little about me and the people accompany me to The Kro's Next every month or so. We always sit on a weekday in the back of the restaurant where it is two storied and has little smoke or noise. Not being drinkers, we do not order beer or alcohol. Every time, it's salad and pizza.

The pizza is American, rather than Italian style. The crust is the thickness of a slice of bread with the consistency of naan or mantou. The amount of tomato sauce, cheese and other toppings are neither generous nor stingy. For around 150RMB depending on type, you get a giant pizza probably 18 inches in diameter that will certainly be enough for three hungry people. The taste comes very close to American fast casual style you get in the US or Europe.

No one can say that the quality comes close to good American or European pizzas, but given the price, I think that's reasonable.

Now, what makes me give this joint five stars is the salad. It's definitely the freshest and most authentic basic Caesar salad you can get in Beijing. Almost all the "American" food in Beijing has some off-flavor that is not found in American food. The salad is one of the items that matches exactly what you get in Mom and Pop's Anytown America restuarants, both in flavor and the after-effects of eating it. To top it off, the Caesar salad is just the right size for three people.

The total bill generally comes out at 50-60RMB per person, and given that the price at American fast-casual restaurants are often more than that, The Kro's Nest deserves 5 stars.
