Have You Got The Write Stuff? Enter the Beijinger's Six-Word Writing Competition!

We're delighted to launch our first-ever writing contest. You're all invited to enter. In fact, to make sure that the competition is open to everyone, we've given it a bit of a twist. All we want from all of you budding wordsmiths is just six words.

Smith brought the world the Six-Word Memoir. Before that, as legend would have it, Hemingway wrote his best work in just six words: "For sale: baby shoes, never worn."

You too can wow the world in six little words. Your story could win you worldwide fame, VIP status and a new life. Well, maybe not all of that ... but you will get your words in print as well as prizes from us and our friends at The Bookworm International Literary Festival (BLF). Read on to learn more.

  • First Prize: A ticket to a BLF writing workshop of your choice plus two invites to the BLF VIP cocktail party
  • Second Prize: Two tickets to "SLAM!" featuring Luka Lesson & Tim Clare (9pm on Saturday, March 17 at 2 Kolegas)
  • Third Prize: Two tickets to the Beijinger's "Pop-Up Magazine" event (8pm on Friday, March 16 at The Bookworm)

To enter the competition, just send the six words that describe your Beijing to sixwords@thebeijinger.com. The closing date for entries is 9am, Thursday, February 16. The finalists will be printed in the March issue of the Beijinger, after which we'll bring it to a public vote on the blog and declare a winner.

In addition, we're collaborating with The Bookworm International Literary Festival to make your six-word Beijing story part of their "Writing On The Wall" display. For the duration of the festival, The Bookworm will be turning their wall (by the staircase) into a display space for this Six-Word contest. Select stories from this contest will be showcased; pens and Post-its will be available for anybody who wants to add their own story to the collage.

Paul,
Feel free to submit as many as you want.

Lodgerly,
For this it does. We are an English-language magazine and website. However, for the live action version at The Bookworm they have said that it can be in Chinese.

Admin,
I am glad that you ran out of words there.
